I'm surprised you didn't guess that the sequence when Nia is thinking about being called a doll was done by Gekidan Inu Curry!! (The duo who did the witch labyrinths in Madoka). It was one of their first projects as a duo and really emblematic of their style.

It might have been a few episodes of Simon being in a funk, but damn if the payoff isn't fucking good. Nia putting her hands on the controls so she can be the physical support for him to pilot Lagann; nobody accused this show of being subtle, but I love loud and overt imagery and symbolism in anime.

Nia's VA is one of my all time faves however she hasn't done any new roles in a long time. If you'd like to see her more in action with her voice, I recommend watching Gunbuster, but you'd also have to watch Diebuster first. Since you're basically going backwards from Kill la Kill to TTGL then Die/Gunbuster would be the next most fitting entry
