This was one of the hypest episodes I've seen, the name drops went so hard! Also all the lore on the Fake Holy Grail War goes so hard.

I think Saber is NOT actually Arthur Pendragon! New Saber didn't say he was Arthur, he said Arthur was the "foundation of our Chivalry" suggesting he's a later English knight or king who inherited Excalibur. His reference to Assassin being "faster than Locksley" point to someone whose story is associated with Robin of Locksley, better known as Robin Hood. There's only two British kings who fit: Richard I "the Lion-Heart" and his "wicked brother" King John. This Saber most likely is Richard due to the lion roar of his phantasm and his immediately connecting Assassin to the Old Man of the Mountain. In history, Richard I and the Old Man of the Mountain dealt with one another when Richard was fighting in the Third Crusade. (Never thought the university paper I wrote on the assassins in my Crusader Studies class would apply to anime!) So, I think he's Richard the Lion-Heart, one of the greatest English warrior kings. Enjoyed your reactions - I hadn't made the Fate Prototype connection!

Excalibur was never inherited. In Fate lore, it’s removed from the human world and rests in Avalon rather than being passed down to later kings.
