I'm going to suggest Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Before Symphogear it was my favorite anime, and it has a new season coming out this year, in summer I think. It has 3 primary seasons, with 2 more seasons following those that are a continuation but very different. There are 4 movies that are basically an alternate universe, with movie 1 and 2 retelling seasons 1 and 2 of the anime but compressed, with a better through line, and with great animation, since the first season aired back in 2004. There is no musical powered bit, but has many other similarities to Symphogear. The most obvious being Nana Mizuki voicing a main character and singing all the OPs. There are many others but it would be spoilers to say any more I think.

I recommend you watch "The Demon Girl Next Door"! It's the funniest magical girl anime I have ever watched. It will be a perfect replacement for you after watching the psychological horror Utena. It has only 24 episodes
