Hiya! It's ConstanTIME... get it! See what I did there 😎
Okay but seriously, this movie was so dang cool! We always love movies that feel comic booky and this one delivered. We loved the creativity, the creepiness and the humor. And we also really loved Keanu Reeves! More of his movies I say! MORE!

Oh man this movie was such an eye opener for me. Keanu Reeves of course (you really should also consider Johnny Mnemonic) is always a good time. I don't think it holds close to the comic that it is based on but since I don't read comics that doesn't bother me. Also the awesome performance of Peter Stormare as Satan/Lucifer ... Insane!

One Keanu movie that was huge when it came out but for some reason has faded a bit from pop culture is Parenthood. Large cast of huge names you will know, great movie. Opposite of the horror/fantasy you were asking about, but still a favorite that I think you'd enjoy.

This may be in my top 3 Keanu movies. The Hellblazer series this is based on is really good. Alot of pre production hate on Keanu being Constantine as the comic was based on the singer Sting, but this movie is great. Peter Stormare and Tilda Swinton as Lucifer and Gabriel were pretty awesome picks imo. I love the gender ambiguity with the devine beings. Thanks for your videos!

Well I don't think the story is, but the character of Constantine is a DC Comic I am pretty sure. But as a person living in Europe I didn't get DC and Marvel comics on the menu much when I was young so others will surely correct me if needed.

Fun Casting: The demon/half-breed Balthazar was played by Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of the rock band Bush.

So by my count, Keanu has played 6 different characters named some variation of "John". If you count "Jacks" (a older nickname for John) and video games, that number goes up to 9.

What? Wait! You both turn this car right around and go watch the end-credit scene!

the 4K remaster drops in a few weeks os I’ll be saving this reaction for when it gets here.

We learned days later it had one, so we went back and watched it. I hate it when we miss them though!

Richard Griffin

They all do that, miss the ending credits bonus

When this came out, never really thought much of it. Just another one off comic flick -- but watching it now I have to say it did hold up after all of these years. One comic rec that kinda fits the bill: The Invisibles by Morrison.

Johnny Mnemonic got a really cool BD release just awhile ago. Director had one hell of a time when shooting it originally, being an indie guy and this being his first big flick, and the theatrical cut was kind of a mess and the movie bombed a bit. But he re-cut it and did the whole thing in monochrome (B/W cut is the new version's name)...really shifts the tone and makes it feel how it should've originally. One to consider definitely.

When Chaz dies you said: "Oh no, he looses everyone close to him". Too true. In the Hellblazer comics he's basically cursed and that's why he's so rude especially to new acquaintances. He often says "The last thing I need is another ghost following me around." Good catch knowing that Lucifer would show up personally to collect his soul. You guys were really perceptive and into this one like suspecting Gabriel and recognizing the significance of self sacrifice. Great reaction!

I've read a lot of Hellblazer comics, but one of my favorite depictions of Constantine is in the 4 volume series by Neil Gaiman called "The Books of Magic". It's available as a complete set in graphic novel form if you're looking for comics. Constantine is always an underdog and con artist out-playing some really powerful and vindictive evils. So for sure the way he played the devil against Mammon and Gabriel in this film is right on par for his character . I won't bore you with a bunch of fanboy stuff, but check out the Wikipedia page for John Constantine for some really cool insights from the creator and comic writers.
