It's Kaiju fightin' time! 🤖🦾
I sure hope you're ready for this... because I certainly was not. This movie blew my mind. It's officially one of my all time favorites. I mention in the intro that I really love the graphic novel "Dawnrunner", so I think that kind of set me up to love this too. And now that I've seen this movie I need MORE! So please leave your recommendations below if you have them - movies, graphic novels, books, you name it 😍

Yay, big monsters go punchy-punchy! Can't wait to watch this one. But I have to. Stupid job.

The Dingo

This is a fun movie man!

You might enjoy Transformers: Age of Extinction-2014 since they are also considered to be living beings with both organic and technological components, rather than purely mechanical robots. Actually start with the first Transformers-2007 and take them in sequel order. Or if you ever want to watch a purely robot movie, Real Steel-2011 is good in that hits a lot of human emotions.

The Dingo

I would avoid the Michael Bay movies. Instead, I'd recommend watching Transformers One that was released last year.

Hey Chandra - love your comic book enthusiasm - it really shows! Also, Marshall Striker - did you catch that the actor is the same man who played Heimdall in Thor? You loved that character too!

Transformers and Pacific Rim Uprising was good.

That is such a funny thumbnail/picture- almost like Chandra is actually witnessing a Kaiju and Giant Mech battling outside your window. 🤣

Fantastic reaction. Chandra giggling with glee seeing the battles in this movie is so delightful, captures exactly how I felt seeing this for the first time. Jordan, you were totally right -- Guilliermo Del Toro is a huge Half-Life and Portal fan, so he got Ellen McLain to do all the AI voices and specifically requested she perform it exactly like she did in the Valve games. And in case you didn't look it up afterwards, Mako's final words to Pentecost essentially translate to "Teacher, I love you".

Hell yeah. Tons of stuff in the manga/anime sphere you'd like, but really it's throwing darts at a board until you really nail down what kinda series you want at that moment. Mech comics recommendations you may like: -We Stand On Guard (limited run set in Canada and drawn by a Canadian artist) -Dynamo Joe (classic western mecha run in the 80s) -Mech Cadet Yu (giant robo that bind to their users, they fight giant monsters -- kind of youth oriented but still a decent time. The tv series is not worth watching, it's really cheap 3DCG animation.) Mech movies/shows to get ya started if you haven't seen 'em: -Robot Jox (80s film, may recognize tons of the cast and it's where a lot of inspiration is drawn for tons of different sutff) -Patlabor: Early Days (Anime/manga, Japanese police squad of misfits that pilots smaller scale mecha called labors. Fun episodes, gets heavy when it wants to (especially in later series/movies, and the animation is out of this world)
