🔮 FANTASY SATURDAY MORNING MOVIE 🔮
Morning Folks! The fun continues with The NeverEnding Story!

Now, I say fun, but honestly this movie was super dark... the story hits on so many deep issues, but the one that stands out to me the most was "The Nothingness". It gets really intense, so it's hard to believe it's a kids movie, but I also thought that was really great... because kids totally deal with huge feelings like that, just like adults. So having a story like this to help navigate those feelings and find hope is really powerful ❤️❤️❤️

Yeah I think as others have mentioned the 1980s family films were often a bit darker as kind of old school parables for life. In fact (as I have recently heard) Steven Spielberg helped get the PG-13 rating created in the USA as a lot of 1980s films that were PG were over that line but not R rated territory. It seems the 1990s kids and family films were softened a little bit so that they could make more money.

The 80s had guts. They told the stories they needed to tell and wasn't as worried about watering material down as they are now. The Nothingness traumatized a whole generation on the same level Jaws did a decade prior.

I've gotta say, the dark themes to these 80's movies are a big part of why I'm loving them so much!
