Author’s Note: Addressing the "Edge-Lord" Elephant in the Room (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone, I’ve been reading the comments regarding the recent turn of events, and I wanted to take a second to address the concerns about Yuta’s "faking his death" and the potential "Red Hood/Edgy Loner" route.
Short answer, it's not happening.
Long answer:
I completely understand why some of you are worried. The "protagonist fakes their death and becomes an edgy vigilante for 50 chapters" is a trope that's been done to death (pun intended) in fanfiction, and it's usually not satisfying. Let me be very clear about what I'm NOT doing:
❌ Yuta will NOT become a completely different character
❌ Yuta will NOT operate as "White Fang" during this period
❌ Yuta will NOT stay separated from the main cast for dozens of chapters
❌ Yuta will NOT let his family suffer unnecessarily
❌ This is NOT a "he disappears for years and comes back unrecognizable" story
Judging from the same comments, I will assume that you guys all understand the decision making process or at least agree that there are no errors in his current way of thinking. (Let me know if you think otherwise before I finalize the follow-up chapters. It's a pain having to rewrite if I make a mistake)
Hence I will take it that your worries are simply to avoid a .... Sasuke leaves the village thing.
Note that I am not dragging out this whole thing. Not really wanna spoil yet but it will be resolved pretty fast, at least based on how I see it. 5-7 chapters.
We're talking 5-7 chapters before he's back in Japan. I'm not dragging this out and you won't be reading 20 chapters of "Yuta trains alone in Manila." We'll hit the key beats and move on.
The "White Fang" persona is not who he is. This is important because I want to reinforce that the whole alter ego was simply for one thing and one thing alone. For Yuta to do what he considers necessary without having to shoulder the burden or consequences that come with it due to what everyone here or most of you will probably agree is ridiculous hero laws.
It's a mask. He won't become the mask. And he is certainly not going to just spend his time hunting the league of villains while keeping his loved ones in the dark tirelessly without anything else (Like Jiraiya hunting Orochimaru. Not really the best example but you get the point)
I am not sure whether I took a wrong turn or could have done it better but the reality now is that this whole arc is to fuel the realization and motivation to get stronger, and a proper breathing space to do it. Look, I found it incredibly difficult to do that while in U.A so for me, taking him out one way or the other was always going to happen.
Shit is going to hit the fan in less than seven months and from the way the U.A timeline looks, he's not going to be strong enough when it does just attending classes. Deku had it easy, but Yuta's powers work differently.
The reality is that I'm not interested in writing "Brooding Protagonist: The Fanfic. I've seriously written three of those earlier on.
This is his lowest point, yes, but it's not a personality change—it's character development
We're not abandoning the "hero student" premise either
If you're worried I'm going to spend the next 30 chapters with Yuta moping alone in Manila while everyone else suffers, that's not the plan. Trust me for a few more chapters. If I'm still heading in a direction you don't like after Chapter 122-123, then by all means, drop the story—but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how this plays out.
Or maybe you won't. I don't expect to be completely free of mistakes and even if I hit the right beats, not everyone will like it but hey .. you live you learn.
Worse case scenario, it'll be vital information to pay attention to for the next fanfic. Anyway, thanks for reading this.
Enjoy the rest of your day/night
