Hollywood Sunset fire would have been the closest one to them and it is contained. We lost one of our best museums yesterday and my coworker who works out of the office is there lost his house on the same day. It's been rough. Spent the whole day scrambling reassigning employees to make sure everyone keeps their jobs even if their reporting station burned down.

Not sure about "Legendary Reaction" but if I remember correctly the stat block for Tiamat says she gets a reaction for each of her heads each round. She gets 5 reactions per round.

So, as it relates to DM responsibility for player turn length, I do feel (as a biased forever DM) that a lot of this stuff gets put on the DM's plate that kind of makes the game less fun to run. Like yeah, you've got to be the bad guy sometimes and that's that, but to also be handling the meta-table social stuff and having to sidebar with players and ask them to go faster? Kind of sucks from a responsibility standpoint. I like DMing, I don't love having to be table-dad too

Re: the slow-ass wizard, I have a proven strategy. My family used to play cribbage a lot and my dad would take forEVER on his turns. My mom and my sister started bringing a second deck of cards to the table and playing a two-person card game together on his turns. It pissed him off and was hilarious. I suggest playing a silent card game while you wait for the wizard to take their turn. Crazy 8s, golf, gin rummy, etc.

i hope everyone & the neighborhood critters are safe from the fires! i relate to the first case so much x-x when i played a wizard with a complicated set of interacting magic items, also as the only note taker my turns would be to the point & prepared. then all that effort felt wasted when our cleric who had the same spells for over an irl year would take 10+ minutes for their turn complete with a cigarette break in the middle T-T

If anyone had said "Do you feel good about killing my guy?" I would have replied "Hell, yeah! The monsters are here to try to kill you guys" On forgetting the legendary actions, I have been GM'ing for close to 40 years and I still forget stuff like that once in a while. You could just play it like an anime character saying "Now I have to get serious and go all out on you guys"

I've forgotten about lots of things on lots of baddies on lots of occasions. Usually, I just join in with the players, razzing the baddie for being inept. Maybe someday, I'll find a good way to submit and everyone can hear the tale of "Sample Lich".

Roll20 rolls can be done in front of the table. You either have to use actual dice buttons, or you can set "always", "query", or "never" for GM rolls in NPC sheet settings.

I don’t think that the DM used the legendary action as a reaction in the action economy, I think they just ment that the player finished their turn and the boss as retaliation used their legendary action.

regarding the legendary reaction, I think they should have said like "oh sorry guys I've been forgetting about their legendary actions" but other than that they're good imo. the monster was homebrewed so the rules aren't going to be exact, so I'm ok with it being a reaction even though official monsters aren't that way. it's just part of the fun of discovering a unique enemy, but there could've been slightly more grace in regard to communication. the comment the player made did seem antagonistic, like there should ALWAYS be the expectation that your character could die and to me the issue was not that big a deal

Sometimes I wish I could submit something to D&D Court. But then I hear things like " D&D isn't about stealing girlfriends" being yelled at a table of 10 people and I realized that my friends and I have never and will never have something insane enough to qualify for the show happen. Caldwell! New dad here! You don’t have to clip your child’s nails! There’s a New Zealand brand called Haka that make baby nail grinders, battery powered! And these have settings for intensity, and my son doesn’t mind me grinding his nails AT ALL!

Replying to long turners! I play a Sorcerer in a Vecna campaign, and without fail, our Barbarian takes 3 minutes to figure out what he’s going to do. “Do I Rage? I don’t know…” sort of thing. I’ve responded by one of the mentioned solutions, the “be as fast as possible with my turn”. It’s been a great exercise for me to REALLY plan ahead, have Action/BA spell combos handy, and create fun descriptions of my spells ahead of sessions to speed things along.
