The Fun Yaunt

Ooooh, I love the new logo design 🤩

Jayden guerra

I've heard of valentines day specials but this is ridiculous!

DuckerQuackson

Shout out to the ?V?I?E?W? CREW

Tiffany

Hell yeah

Nate

New lore for Kongo Bongo island

Jean-Luc A

Murph crash out in the first 4 minutes has to be some sort of record.

N Phillips

This honestly feels like the natural evolution for these goobers

kalejefe

new Crew just dropped

Grimmie

I'm four minutes into this and I'm fucking dying. Any time Murph hates something so much he starts screaming, you know we're in for a treat

sarah may

obsessed w the logo

Champ wild

Great first view crew everyone disagreeing with Murph always makes for good listening.

Linnea C

God I love that Murph added a voice clip so we knew how insane he sounds

Krillwizard

Yass murph add the clips from the show to prove ur points go off king

Darby Nicole Mishra

Holding my breath waiting for the Murph freakout P.S. Please keep using the 8BBC theme song for actual book episodes! I love hearing Emily's dulcet tones!

Shockev

Starting the new series with 3v1 opinions against Murph - that's how I know 8-Bit book club will never die ❤️

Featherweight

Hey o Donkey Kong let’s go let’s s go!

Zanna

The view crew logo looks so good!!

Gecko Extraodinare

Ah classic Donkey Kong episode of 8bbc: Murphy vs. everyone else

jackalope503

Love the View Crew logo! EDIT: jumping back into my comment for a sec to agree with Emily that the song “Creepin” absolutely whips ass. That said, I remember watching this show as a little kid and my god the animation is so much worse than I remember

thiswayjose

I miss the 8 Bit Book Club theme song :(

daddy's special pudding

I haven't listened yet but I'm slightly concerned. Is Jack going to be a regular guest on this? Hard to know what to expect since he was never on 8BBC.

Zerolott

Donkey Kong Country pioneered major advances in MoCap technology, so the "bad animation" is fantastic MoCap for the time. Also "Our Love is Stronger Than a Golden Banana" is the best song from the show

Fiel

This is, quite possibly, the most Capital L Murph has taken.

Gabrielle Warakomski

The editing of the song playing in the background as Emily sings is so fucking funny lmao Can we get this to the Grammys?

Linnea C

Ok I’ve returned after watching the music video for love potion I’m sorry I’m so concretely on Murph’s side, Bluster is an absolute crooner but as an animation student I cannot abide by what would get me effectively kicked out of school if I handed that in

Jo Wright

My regret is not doing at least one drug before watching bluster kong’s music videos

Zerolott

Double checked, it was season 1 and 2 that used MoCap technology, and it was the first television series to be animated using primarily MoCap. Season 3 was CG.

Martian

As someone who grew up watching both shows on repeat, I don't remember a thing from the Mario show but I still remember "the mirror never lies" song from Donkey Kong. Sorry Murph but I bow before the future king, Donkey of Clan Kong

Oska

I am so incredibly on Murph’s side on this to a level i never could have imagined Edit: okay the songs kinda slaps

Diana Foti

Bluster for some reason reminds me of John Waters. I know he isnt based on him but just reminds me of him. Lol

Riley

not even 5 minutes in and murph is YELLING!! it’s gonna be a good ep 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Toblerone. jpg

“They worked NOTHING” made my jaw drop… murph omg

Ruthie Pinion

Ah yelling Murph, how we’ve missed you

Adam Sutton

View Crew: An 8-Bit Book Club Production by NADDPOD (ft. special guest Jeff Hermits)

scott kennedy

I watched the donkey kong episode and felt like it was pretty distinct that bluster was lying to cranky from minute one

Soo Loo Candles

Everyone is kinda of right but murph is much righter. It was bad

Aiyana

the graphic is super awesome!!

SerWelly's Sultry Secret Sacred Sapphic Sonet

Maybe USA Network but I think they just literally use the assets from Donkey Kong 64 and the animators just had a f****** crunch if I didn't have to walk to work right now I would do a little research

Lilli Jaye

I remember being a kid in the early 2000s and being told that this show exists but no reruns were playing anymore so I always really really wanted to see it and I couldn't imagine it not being awesome.

SerWelly's Sultry Secret Sacred Sapphic Sonet

Bro there's like three really good romantic horror movies right now companion by the guy who did Barbarian there's on shutter "the dead thing" and heart eyes f****** slaps

SerWelly's Sultry Secret Sacred Sapphic Sonet

Donkey Kong Country was like what are the earliest actually living subjects because there was reboot those were literally computer people and there was Beast Wars so like the stiffness could be explained by the fact that they were cybertronians or whatever and toy story they hid the faces of the humans in the first one

Tony

Emily please listen to "I'm nobody's hero" from the donkey kong show. I genuinely love that song

Kathryn Martin

Adding the sounds from the show was a very nice touch!

Tijay Arnie

Is Candy the only one wearing clothes?

Ryley D

Only 1 min in and already love it!

Tijay Arnie

Is there a specific criteria for whatever shows yall are watching? Cos Monster High is a show I would love to see yall watch

Vincent

Love the new show! Hope you guys can get Jake on since he was got on an 8-bit bookclub eps

Alan Ma

Bluster Kong needs to be the BBEG of the 156-episode Donkey Kong campaign they're inevitably going to run

dylndmg

Am I the only one that remembers Reboot as when this kind of CGI just took off!? Might have been referenced here before. Cannot remember.

Katy Tacik

In defense of DK, Toy Story was in development for two years and the humans still looked janky af. Much tighter turnarounds on a tv episode!

Declan Konesky

They did my boy Jake dirty! 8 bit book club cancelled a second time and Jake never made it on!

Lindsey

Listened to this while falling asleep last night, woke up with the false dream-memory of the episode ending with y'all announcing plans for to open a nerd-themed restaurant "Magic the Grill"

Ryan

I love Murph just crashing out minutes in. It wouldn’t be an 8bit esque show without the Murph crash out.

Autumnis_Prime

“do you think they used bananas as condoms?” has the same energy as some of my other favorite podcast life altering questions such as “is butt legs?” or “how far up the egg does the pants go?”

Myckeli

As someone with no relationship to any kind of Donkey Kong media, this episode felt like a glorious fever dream. Had me cackling to myself like a madwoman, thanks for the much needed serotonins!

Kellyd

The production value on this episode is insane with the interstitials of the real episode, perhaps even higher value than Donkey Kong

Bunnarchist

Yelling what the fuck slightly away from the mic is basically a murph catchphrase for 8bit book club and it's spinoffs

Glenn Dowdle

The Gaslight Group

Amy Bergeron

I was thinking about the same thing! This flavour of CGI nostalgia gives Reboot to me 🤖

Max Herzog

Props to the team for getting together and gaslighting Murph for this entire show 😁

David Chapnick

I just watched this. Are Donkey Kong's teeth retractable? He doesn't have them for the majority of the time, but then he hates them when he confronted Bluster

Ben Herman

3.5 mins in and Murph is already screaming. God bless the Golden Age of Naddpod

David Guerrero

I gotta agree with Caldwell, this crawled so stuff like Code Lyoko could sprint

SerWelly's Sultry Secret Sacred Sapphic Sonet

The bare chest of Bluster looks like it's supposed to be like a Dickie but make some look nude especially without a collar you have to have a shirt or a collar or pants if you're a cartoon character

Syf Sloane

learning that this show was like 70% motion capture really makes the animation feel extra cursed

Babbles The Clown

"World building" is the greatest excuse for anything in any media

SerWelly's Sultry Secret Sacred Sapphic Sonet

To validate Murph. as a child watching this show I clocked the weird stilted animation and that Bluster was a wild addition but he seems to be the show's favorite character I think the writers didn't really want to make a Donkey Kong show and where forced into it the song for the best part and that's kind of sad because songs are often put into animation just pad the runtime but I like the evil fake friend capitalist he kind of reminds me of Smurfs take on Funky Kong

Ryan

They have been cooking with the production value in all of the shows recently. And also keeping mostly on schedule. Champs.

Syf Sloane

APE bit book club

Jack

Woah - "Creeping" by Bluster Kong absolutely slaps!!!! Also - Emily's comment that the Crystal Coconut might be the last surviving computer cracked me up, it's got me thinking there's been a DK style Butlerian revolution. Truly, masters of world building!!

peace k.

Emily was right. “Creeping”’s instrumental is absolutely goddamn FILTHY. Incredible. No notes

Papa Taylor

This was the worst cartoon I’ve ever seen. I was disgusted by the animation. 90’s cartoons were insane.

Col998

Transformers Beast Wars is the example from this era of how low budget computer animation can still be good.

CommodoreBlue

I miss the 8 Bit Book Club intro, but who were we kidding by trying to claim that title?

CommodoreBlue

Wow, a certified Murph freak out within the first 4 minutes. The haters are feasting

xatlern

I really hope that for April Fool's or something they all try convince Murph that they all love something that's truly garbage or that they hate something that's actually good.

Elana Kadish

these eps were so funny 😭😭 and big shoutout to trevor i’m loving the inclusion of little audio clips from the shows - it really gives funny context to what they’re talking about since i have not and will never watch these shows lol!! especially for em’s duet lmao - so great!

Alex Herndon

Psychoanalyzing Bluster Kong is premium content

Scheisseblasen

View Crew is a win! Keep up the great work guys

Rover Bernhard

It turns out the cartoon is where the “you can slap it once” meme comes from

James Cherenzia

I love whenever they watch bad media as it inevitably devolves into someone in the crew gaslighting Murph that a horrid piece of shit they just watched was cinema actually

Wren Koziel

Murph’s unbridled rage at the beginning is giving me life Like “CaLdWeLl YoU aRe A FuCkInG aNiMaToR!” Truly had me laughing in the middle of a very boring math class. Dice Christ bless these chaotic folks

Dippity_Dip

I really need to hear Murph’s reaction to the Metal Head song from this show

Jaydon

i just watched it 10/10 made me feel like i was playing a ps2 game in my dentist office

austinoxner

This is gonna be fun

Suzanna DePeri

The breakdown is always - Emily genuinely likes it - Caldwell genuinely appreciates all the work animation takes but also likes riling Murph up - Jake says he likes it to rile Murph up

Michael Beck

I agree that it is genuinely better than the Mario and Joliet. All the dances and everything were done using MOCAP, and the sheer uncanny valley insanity evokes the same feeling in me as Lovecraftian horror. It is genuinely terrifying and I love it so much.

Sean Boyle

I love the fact that any time they decide to do one of these Murph is essentially signing up to be gaslit for an hour cause they all know how funny his rage fits are.

Hayle Heather

In 4th grade we had a little tv in the classroom we could watch stuff on during lunch time. I was a huge Kong Head so I brought a Donkey Kong Country vhs tape so I could share this glorious tv show with my whole class. I vividly remember a scene between Bluster Kong and Candy Kong that made me so embarrassed I hid in the bathroom in shame until it was over.

mikel_pickle

*worldbuilding* ✨

CommodoreBlue

Is Murph always forgetting how the A to J system works an intentional bit?

Joe K

I was really looking forward to more Skaldova. forgot it’s an off week 😓

Oscar Brown

Hated how much I laughed at this #worldbuilding

Doublelink

I don’t know if anyone else has answered this or if the crew will see it but… Cranky is the original DK who fought Mario in the 80s. He married Wrinkly and they birthed the current Donkey Kong. Wrinkly died sometime between DK Country 2 and DK64 in which she is a ghost. So Cranky is a widower.

Beano Nintendo

Ok. Is no one going to acknowledge that the implications of the episode title? I know it's supposed to be a pun on "love and hate" but there's another word that sounds more similar to "ape" that people talk about the "blurred lines" of a lot and that's pretty uncomfortable

Bonky Fiasco

I don’t want flowers for Valentine’s Day. I want a classic Murph freak-out.

Matt Kilsby

I think murph was a pretty harsh on what is quite clearly a masterclass is writing, acting and animation

Hostage4hire

Ahh I love the smell of gaslighting Murph in the morning

Casey Struble

Your Co-Hosts Are Correct.

Amanda M

I see where Jake pulled his amazing Skaldova worldbuilding from

Mac

if you've ever seen Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, it feels like that show was inspired by the absolute horror of donkey kong country

Glenn Dowdle

After watching both I reluctantly have to say DK was better. It was devoid of life but weird in a funny way. The Mario show tried way too hard and had way too much going on. Bad acting/ voice acting, bad laugh track, and terrible jokes.

Joe

That is the greatest song in the entire series. I have the whole video saved on my phone to listen to it as a pick me up.

Beano Nintendo

How is a one letter difference a stretch? “Ape” to “hate” is literally more of a stretch. I’m not saying the DKC writers did it intentionally. I’m saying they didn’t think through how else the title could be interpreted

Brendan McDermott

Bluster kong holds a dr evil like spell on me now “Creepin” is a legitimate banger

Bumphrey_Hogart

Okay so “creepin” kind of rules

Jonathan Yarberough

Top five Murphy crash outs easily, and it isn't even 5 minutes in 😭

Taylord

More Donkey Kong content 🙏

Nicoo Güntner

Because "Thin line between love and hate" is an actual expression and what you said is absolutely not

Todd

I watched both, and Donkey Kong was way better. I’m on Emily’s side.

Joe

It’s got major daft punk energy and DK’s singing is actually really good????

Kendra Waters

This 3v1 energy is “giving” (as the kids say) Dungeons and Dragons movie

ACK

Nice job Murph, Emily, and Caldwell, welcome to new host Jake!

Saint Panic

Muroh going from hugely indignant to beaten down acceptance is so funny 😅

Lord Arrogance

Murph please never stop indignantly crashing out I love it so much

Ian Capper

Found the ep on YouTube. Can confirm: murph is trippin

Chiekhan Nughantz

I need a dubsteb remix of the Murphsplosion. Bass doesn't drop til Murph's blood pressure peaks.

Julio Fuentes

its dungeons and dragons movies all over again, second one is technically a better movie but then it loses the quirkiness of the worst movie

Majuu

Im in a random bar in Newcastle and I kid you not, Donkey Kong and Bluster, is on the tv. I listened to this episode this morning and now I'm having a drink with the massively talented Bluster Kong

Steve

Sure, I'd have liked them to just give us Skaldova straight through, but they announced that they were doing a schedule of 2 campaign and 1 side content for this campaign. So we're just gonna wait till next week to get our carnal release fill.

Grass

People on Twitter were hyping up the immediate Murph freakout and I was not disappointed

Tzaphchiel

Just watched all the episodes of both shows. DK is the obviously superior show, sorry Murph!

Brandon Wiens

Anyone commenting that Crystal Coconuts were actually a pretty big component of DonkeyKong 64?! Also this and the Short Rest episode have been a DEEP nostalgia INJECTION. I was 6 when this show came out and had JUST been introduced to video games on the SNES and Genesis by my cousin! DK Country, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, A Link To The Past, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Earth Worm Jim, Jurassic Park, Mario Kart… the list goes on for ever! Such old memories came flooding back that I probably would have never remembered otherwise! Thanks! 🤙🤙🤙

Winterbat

World building, Murph. World building.

Winterbat

That’s exactly what I was thinking! Crystal coconuts were a major part of Donkey Kong 64

Kelley

I watched like 2 minutes of this on youtube and Murph is absolutely correct.

Glenn

Can confirm the songs are amazing

Brandon Wiens

Ristar, Vectorman, Cool Spot (the 7-Up mascot), Bubsy, Joshua and the Battle of Jericho… man my early childhood from 6-10 is flashing before my eyes!!!

Ilana Galpert

You mentioned the throat tunnels but I wasn't prepared for the No Teeth. Gummy mouthed buster singing about being a god is something else

Zeke10n

It will never not be funny hearing how upset Murphy is by the rest of the crew's reactions

Jeffrey Steck, Lord of the Fjord

The animation is a bit off-putting. Maybe my tv is just too good. Blusters hair and mustache reminded me of Gomez Adam’s. Agree that they try to make Candy too human looking.

Rumi Tuesday

I was not expecting the frequency of musical numbers

Brianne Jarvis

Immediately the energy of this episode is what I needed.

Tiles Lamar

I couldn’t even get through Bluster the Benevolent. It’s so wildly off-putting

Alec Rudek

There's a scene in the show where DK has his head shaven and we learn that the curl at the top of his head isn't hair, it's a fleshy mount. Try writing a better twist than that (you can't)

Katie P.

My dad always said marriage is about finding someone you want to pick on for the rest of your life

Robert

Something really nice in this ep that I’ve noticed in a bunch of others but always makes me smile - Caldwell makes a dumb, silly joke and Jake just gives a single genuine “ha!” Love to see friends gas each other up.

Tanner Bennett

Bluster was horrifying, but Crusher is the ideal male body

Tanner Bennett

I wish they had enough time to do a dedicated 8-bit club again. Those were so fun, but I get how it’s almost impossible with all the rest of their schedules.

Matty H

Anyone else noticed that Bluster sings kind of like Boggy Rogers

Barlosaur

Watched the episode of DK. Im gonna give it an "I" For, I don't know what Murph is thinking not liking that.

McNeilly Fieweger

Ok I watched one episode and I didn’t know the “you may smack it once” meme is from the intro credits. Also the episode I watched had funky Kong and he was just naked with a flesh fur tone. Harrowing

Bryce Peterson

As a professional DM, it’s asinine how little Murph understands about world-building.

Rob H.

I watched the DK episode but I have not seen the Super Show yet. I really love King K's song about how he has everything he wants. I'm gonna start singing that when I get home with the groceries. The animation is so bad it made it hard to watch it as a show. I was mostly looking down their throat holes.

CallMeButters

After hearing that small bit of the song from the episode I can confirm Murph is just a hater

Lauren Edwards

Oh how I love a Murph freak out!! So good.

Caro Norto

There’s a lot wrong in the world but somehow Murph absolutely losing his mind over this DK episode makes me feel like some things are okay

Shawn Harrison

Okay. I know that the episode has some problems. I know that Bluster's hand clips through the wall at 9:05 and 9:45 which is why they probably switched to the pink background. I know that King. K. Krule's pupils cast shadows at 12:51. I know that the 3d rigs are not flush against the ground and are therefore floating. I know that DK's teeth show up at what seems like random times. But dammit I still loved it (I watched this show as a kid). Take the biggest tiny L Murph.

Shawn Harrison

If you guys enjoyed the music, you should check out 'I'm Nobody's Hero's from another episode. A genuinely good song https://youtu.be/UtGL5yKdSCk?si=lBOTv-QqFlTyQk9u

Nitzan Harel

Jake: “It’s for deep throating fruit” Me, in my head: “No! I’m for deep throating fruit, those monkeys are all straight!”

Pali Endi

The slowest Murph exhale 🤣

Cooper Erikson

Does anyone know what episode of the critically aclaimed Donkey Kong Country the animated series they watched?

James Andrade

When Murph freaks out, know that I, too, am freaking out. Stand strong, Murph! 😂

Cooper Erikson

Ok found and tried to watch it. Got about 5 minutes in and had to stop. It's worse than the garbage generated by AI. Murph you deserve a giant W from your partner for the way she raked you over the coals for having the objectively correct opinion about this slop of a show. The show feels about as soulless as the terrifying bulging amorphous animated eyes of Bluster.

Hammy

I grew up watching the Donkey Kong show on Canadian TV and having no exposure to the Mario show. Even with rose tinted nostalgia glasses, the DK show is donkey ass compared to Mario.

Sean Zenitram

Team Kong here. Both are bad, but the Mario show didn't have any soul.

Alex Goveo

I'm on team Murph for this one. That DK animation is nightmare fuel and I'd much rather watch the Super Mario Super Show.

Albert Snipz, Family Counselor @Mangia's Ristorante

From the wiki: Over seventy percent of the character animation in the series was produced using performance capture. Two performers were required for each character; one performed the character's body movements, while the other used hand movements to control the character's face. The limitations of the technology used meant that actions like picking an object up could not be produced with this method and had to be keyframed. This process allowed the character animation of one episode to be completed in two weeks, as compared to the six to eight weeks keyframed animation was estimated to require for the same length.

Steven Hatch

If Donkey Kong is a prince then by extension isn't his dad King Kong? Explains their beef with the 'Zards given the history between Kong and Godzilla... (And that's what we call World-Building - take the tiny L, Murph)

King ETL

So I watched that episode first donkey Kong cartoon episode I ever watched. Why does donkey sound like that 🤣

Cameron Cook

willem dafoe as Kranky the ape is such a chilling performance

ChaosKing47

The best song of the show is "a pirate's scorn" there is even a animation based on the 25th anniversary by Alex Henderson animations on YouTube it proves that the songs were the only good thins about this show an it lives rent free in my head forever https://youtu.be/k5-X58Tw6RQ?si=ucuLpr1OfGHiEtrR

Sean

I listened to Creepin' at Emily's recommendation and now I can't stop singing "Here I go creeping, SHH don't make a sound" at random times of the day

Jay S

Not even 5 minutes in and already discovering new favourite Murph sounds with how passionately upset he is with his yelling. Perfect sode, no notes

Courtney F.

Alright. I've seen SMB Super Show so I had to watch Donkey Kong and... I'm with Caldwell. These are charming in their own ways. The Murph hate for this show, while entertaining, is a bigger L than we're acknowledging.

Ollie Scott

Ngl, I remember renting the vhs of crystal coconut a gratuitous amount as a kid. The k rool song when he gets the coconut unfortunately goes hard

Miranda the Dungeon Court Stenographer

I really really tried to understand the gang’s perspective here but as the episode went on Murph’s crashout became more and more valid.

Darren Davis

No. I could not abide DK as a kid. I agree with Murph the models and rigging are hideous.

Adam Scull

I love how they always troll Murph

strelitzien

murph is 100% correct here btw. also WHAT is with the eye movement of this show, its nightmare fuel (that being said: i think they should react to another ep just so that i can get emily's opinion on leo luster)

Mary Grizzle

After looking at a screencap, if I was murph i would have thrown up from frustration

jules

Just peeling my morning banana this morning as I do and all I could think about was banana comdom

Broghar The Bugbear

I chronically forget, that Emily, Jake and Caldwell have such a paved road of razzing the absolute shit outta Murph XD

David Tatarczuk

Will miss the 8 bit book club theme song but loving the content

Clover Gilfor

The Donkey Kong Country Show also came from a segment from a SEPARATE French show called Donkey Kong Planet which was a combo of motion-cap animation and live action. https://www.mariowiki.com/Donkey_Kong_Planet

Kevin Cassidy

Here's a short "documentary" (ad?) showing the mocap process https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7rcNu8rrLXg

Ilana Galpert

I can't remember if Emily mentioned this song but youtube just recommended it to me and it seemed like an important addition to the cannon

Penpen

All I have to say is Donkey Kong has a beautiful singing voice in that show. You HAVE to listen to Nobody's Hero, it's amazing

A Garbanzo Bean

I'm only 5 minutes in and I can tell it's gonna be a wild ride of an episode to the end.

Derrick Collins

Jake- “Why does he like the bananas?” Murph-“I don’t know, dude.” Idk why that had me rolling on the floor lol

Lucia V.

Wow I watched it and I love the powerful message that true happiness comes from self love, also very cool that they referenced Love Potion No. 9, I love that song! Blown away by the worldbuilding of it all

Jordan Sisneros

Not a fan of not having the 8 bit book club theme and kind of a let down you guys won’t be releasing these to the 8bit podcast for fans of this style of show.

mangobubs

BRING BACK THE CUTE THEMATICALLY INACCURATE THEME SONG YOU COWARDS! I miss singing along with emily 😭

AJ C

Hate that the first search results for Bluster Kong contains art of the eponymous Kong with the Sharingan Eye

Alexander Collins

You guys should do "sonic underground" my daughter and I found it on paramount

JustAce

I love this episode so much. I think I've listened to it 6 times already

Brian

I can literally quote this. Such a great episode.
