If you liked ‘Late Victorian Holocausts’ I have to put this here: ‘A Little Matter of Genocide: Holocaust and Denial in the Americas 1492 to the Present’ by Ward Churchill No single book has had as big of an impact on my thinking about colonialism, war, genocide, etc. I have it on my shelf immediately next to ‘Late Victorian Holocausts’ & ‘The Open Veins of Latin America’

… and speaking of people’s gratitude over this show know they’re not crazy, here’s exactly what I texted my 28, 21 & 18 y/o siblings on 10 Oct: “I was only in 2nd grade when 9/11 happened, and still younger than you are now when the U.S. invaded Iraq, but especially with the latter I remember watching society get sucked into a toxic militaristic mindset full of rabid racism/ islamophobia, which at least in part is what allowed the decade-plus wars in the Middle East and occupation of Afghanistan-and the 100,000s of civilian deaths. I feel like the situation in Israel/ Palestine has the potential to be similarly catastrophic, and I just want to say try to stay conscious of the toxic black & white rhetoric of war & politics. Bad actors/warmonger politicians/corporate ghouls will use loaded terms like "terrorism" & "the right to defend ourselves" to get people onboard with or tacitly endorse actions they'd normally be morally horrified by. . . . You may start to feel like you're going crazy, watching the 100% obvious, undeniable horror of all this, then hearing politicians & media call it something completely different, effectively saying ‘don't believe your lying eyes.’ . . . That's all I wanted to say for now, just try to stay clear-eyed about supporting (or not opposing) things you otherwise might not.”
