This week:
Mining
The first NPC
Mining
This was the last feature I needed to implement to truly complete the base game loop for the underground caves. Basically, it will be difficult to harvest these rocks because they will be protected by lots of larva which you will have to fend your robot from.
Now that I have all the assets I need, I will be making a short complete underground level to explore with rewards and maybe a couple puzzles.
The First NPC
NPCs will be a minor but complex feature of the game. Their AI contexts are preloaded with information on how to traverse certain parts of the cave as well as understanding what it is allowed to say. The challenge here is preventing the NPC from hallucinating strange or inexistent game features. I can mitigate this with function calls.
In the near future, asking the NPC for certain things will cause game related events to occur: getting angry and throwing larva at you, or maybe rewarding you by opening a door. I have to keep this simple because chat bots are not really meant for this kind of thing at the moment.
The 3 way conversation system is VERY hamfisted because ChatGPT is only meant for 1 on 1 conversations. So I will not be spending too much time to improve that specific feature for now.
I will be leaving this July 14th for 10 days as part of my annual vacation. Therefore the June build will be released near the end of July instead of this month.
