Hoverboard
Misc Features
Hoverboard
The hoverboard is super fun! As I said a while back, there are two pillars for the game design for MyRobot: exploration and character behaviours.
The previous month was a character behaviour update, this month it's an exploration update, which means we are graduating to the hoverboard.
The controls for the hoverboard were designed with snowboards in mind. Its velocity will change depending on the forward direction it is going but it will also be influenced by the direction the downhill slope is going, so if you don't steer, your hoverboard will follow the downhill trajectory by itself! This also means that it's mostly a downhill vehicle. It is not good for going uphill. The uphill upgrade will come later (jetboard).
It was challenging actually implementing the hoverboard physics because the hoverboard is a rigidBody and standing on top of it is a ragdoll! The ragdoll therefore had to have several puppeteering behaviours disabled and had to be forced to always follow the hover board.
Misc Features
Two temporary fast travel points were added to get to the top of the mountain. These will be enabled by default for now.
Tools like the grapple hook can be used while on the board. This allows you to unstuck yourself or maybe grapple and jump a large crevice while on your board. The cool thing is that since arms and tools are detachable, you have more options to roll out with the hover board, as in: you can go without the grapple hook and use that arm with another tool (like the balloon gun arm).
Another thing too is that the map needs to be designed around the hoverboard. Prompting a potential expansion very soon.
Stay tuned!
