The rumor is Kubo got so invested into the TYBW anime adaptation and improving the source material and post TYBW story arc that this got put on the back burner, there was confirmation it would be continuing but obviously it’s been a few years so who knows when/if he goes back to this story But making TYBW the best it could be took priority

he actually thought he was dying and was. He rushed TYBW because of that and is why the next season was delayed so long as he is rewriting a lot of the ending.
