That ending where she switches from Princess to Queen, damn they make you FEEL the weight of the crown. The reason they were rushing to her was so that she heard the news from someone she knows and trusts and doesn't hear it on the radio first. "Hyde Park Corner" was the code phrase for the King dying. Every Monarch has their own code; Queen Elizabeth was "London Bridge." The reason this Churchill feels so different to the usual portrayals is because most movies and TV shows show War Time Churchill. He was Prime Minister from 1940-1945, but then he became Prime Minister for a second time in 1951, which around the time this is set (King George VI died in 1952). I think some of the politicians in his party maybe felt like he'd had his time, he left his legacy, and maybe he's a little stuck in the past. Lithgow is one of few actors who gets to portray this older "2nd term" Churchill.
