This is a bittersweet episode for me.

Sweet because I was genuinely excited to begin Mass Effect 2 as this is when I'd finally gotten through the other Mass Effect media so I could talk about it in earnest and because I formulated the background drama.

Bitter because this episode stressed me the hell out. I knew taking on Kasumi's loyalty mission so early would be a problem but god damn, even on Sentinel it was serious business. You might be able to see it in Shepard's movement, but I was low key panicked when I ran out of thermal clips.

To be totally upfront: Tali was always going to be the romance option, I decided that between Mass Effect 1 and 2. But it would be boring if the Presidents just all agreed to romance her when all three of them have known preferences. Obama with Miranda, Donald with Samara, and Joe with Jack.

So, Obama decides to involve himself in the drama despite being against stepping in during Mass Effect 1, this retroactively made his neutrality in Mass Effect 1 come off as a play to remain on Donald's good side so he could negotiate a deal to lock in a Miranda Romance. As you know, this whole thing spirals so that one by one Miranda, Samara, and Jack are eliminated as options thus leaving the boys with Tali as the only option.

Also the question of what will happen first the release of GTA VI or the end of the playthrough has been answered.

I definitely feel that sense of panic. I am a bit bone-headed and always play on insanity and almost always do Kasumi's loyalty mission first if I am playing a class that only has access to SMGs and pistols and as a result I almost always end up in the same position you did and honestly die more than you did in this episode for my trouble. Despite that I always end up doing it again, telling myself it won't be so bad this time and the Kassa Locust is worth it even though if I am completely honest with myself it really isn't since the classes that would need it aren't doing most of their damage with firearms to begin with.

SAD

It’s crazy that it’s been a year and a half since this play through started. I started watching the videos while working at Shakeshack and it really helped me get through the days. Also this series got me into playing the trilogy (I bought the legendary edition when it came out but didn’t get around to playing it). Also Mass Effect 2 was my favorite of the three (Especially because of your videos).

Doing Kasumi's loyalty mission early is a decent push, but especially on weapons-limited classes, its silly to try to play much more of the game with the awful submachine gun they start with.

My last playthrough (before watching this series), I ran out of clips in the same exact spot and thought how BS it was. With that said, this might be my #1 episode of the whole playthrough. Perfect blend of action, dialog and commentary. Obama hyping us up with the intro, explaining the death of Shepard being hard to believe (completely agree), Donnie upset by losing the scar, and the closing talk between Obama and Donnie is all time.

I will never stop swearing and cursing at the stupidity of adding thermal clips so that mass effect becomes more of the typical "shooter" for the console players. Managing your overheating was so much more satisfying than looking for goddamn ammo all the time. And Insanity specifically is just *awful* if you fight Vorcha and Krogan.... which you do mostly at the damn start of the game! So everything is a bloody bulletsponge if you don't have incendiary ammo.

The Big B

My hot take is that the first half of Mass Effect 2 is actively bad on any higher difficulty, and the primary cause is thermal clips making some classes straight up worse. What a truly baffling decision.

I was doing a parallel sentinel insanity run at the same time (first time playing sentinel), following the same mission order as the series. It was a little difficult with some things happening off-screen, and I eventually got ahead and wasn't patient enough to wait. The early Kasumi mission was not that bad, really, just required patience. I died less than Big B. It's always fun to see how even though technically the missions are "the same", various elements can result in it being far more difficult or easier.

Honestly other than soldier or engineer and even then that's my personal opinion are the only starting classes in Mass effect 2 that are decently okay at the beginning of it even horizon is one of the most massive difficulty curves in all three games even the academy in Mass effect 3 was because of key positioning on enemy fronts and poor cover.

I love Barack's energy at the beginning, always gets me pumped up! Also also, I'm pretty sure you can actually finish Andromeda before we get GTA VI
