Americans sure love being paranoid. And they’re not always paranoid for sensible reasons, like ever-expanding corporate and governmental surveillance systems. Sometimes they’re paranoid about natural and predictable astronomical events.

For this episode we discuss why the conspiracist world is fretting about the solar eclipse that will be seen across the United States on April 8th. We also chat with Arthur Goldwag, author of the recently published book The Politics of Fear: The Peculiar Persistence of American Paranoia.

Hey boys, I feel like it is my Oregonian duty to let you know that the Civil War was the name for the rivalry game between the University of Oregon and Oregon State University up until a couple years ago. So the news broadcast was just comparing a football game to a more intense football game, though they were using the outdated name for the game. Anyways, great episode, as always, and Go Ducks! (The University of Oregon’s mascot).

The internet really has been an incredible boon for the dumbest person you knew in high school being able to sell themselves as a wise sage with esoteric knowledge.

I think there's no doubt about Mike Linddell: he's a true believer.

Civil War in that newscast is just what they call the football game between those two teams. Not the literal civil war lol

Thanks Jake for the skyrim reference

I am almost a month late on listening. Arthur was one of the best guests in a long time. Great listen!

C’mon

Just catching up… but wow. Really nailed it.
