gotta rec the Chinese horror-comedy-action film series Mr. Vampire, which are like mummies/zombies/vampires/ghosts in one monster

absolutely loved this episode as a vampire enthusiast!! all the cryptid episodes are great in general!

Honestly I disagree that captilism was what made vampires sexy. Much of the popular vampire fiction of the 19th century used it as a way to examine the days sexual boundaries.

Kinda surprised there was no mention of Vampire The Masquerade and the small bouts of Satanic Panic it caused in its heyday. Outside of that, fantastic episode!

Enjoyed the episode, but Julian's arrogance and pretense is getting a little heavy handed these days, IMO. We get it dude, you're a smart, measured aristocrat, but maybe try and conceal your clearly honest disdain for Jake's "simple minded" contributions a little more. The podcast will be a lot stronger for it.

This episodes AutoQ was ridiculous! It's like "Is it real or The Onion?" "Is it news from Q Land or is it a Jake story?".

Watching Nosferatu in class was a rite of passage for high school German students back in the day. During the risqué scene, my German teacher used to hold up an 8.5x11 sheet of computer paper over it. Classic.

Oh I don’t know, I think their back and forth is funny. Julian’s open outrage and Travis’ quiet disappointment is what makes Julian the mom, Travis the dad, and Jake their child.

Jake, in their best impersonation of Milo Edwards impersonation of Gorka: "Join me, mr Chapo, on the impaling spikes of transylvania!"

Romanian here, just popping in to say well done for trying to pronounce some of the name (including Wallachia which you butchered). Also letting you know there were modern cases of 'vampirism' (newest I found was 2009). Also, the custom in the village I grew up in is that if someone is believed to be a vampire and it's causing illness in a relative, the corpse has to be dug up, its heart burnt and ashes mixed with water and given to the victim. :)

Nosferatu is something I always thought was super scary and then someone pointed out the antisemitism and I was damn now it's scary for another reason

Btw Brandenburg is not a town but a state.

How is there no mention of Shadow Of The Vampire, a fictional twist on the making of Nosferatu from 2000 starring Willem Dafoe as Schreck if he actually was a vampire and John Malkovich as F. W. Murnau?
