So bummed I missed this reaction. I was at warped the year they released this and it was absolutely insane. Opened the set with downfall of us all. Think it’s iconic how they were so early in their career calling out the exploitation of the industry Number of plays it’s important to understand… this was the time when a lot of us uh… now 30 year olds.. were using likewire. Spotify was not a thing. We occasionally dabbled in pandora. But at least personally, I did not use Spotify at all until 2012-2013. ADTR was all done through iTunes and limewire 😂 Also pretty much the whole album is a fuck you to the industry and rise of popularity. Like they weren’t huge at the time. They’d started taking off, but homesick is what broke them mainstream. But this album was their fuck you to people who told them they wouldn’t be successful, friends who dropped them because of how busy they were, and past album proving that wrong, and fuck you to the industry for the restrictions they put on them and the horrible contract they got. As well as the strains that all of that puts on relationships, being on the road, suddenly having so much visibility, how it changes you as a person and a partner.

Some pop-punk recs that I think you’d like, the wonder years, four years strong, knuckle puck, and as a fellow Ohioan, the ever beautiful midwestern real friends. Generally best with music from 2012-2017. More recent tbh, sleep token reminds me a lot of adtr in terms of metal instrumentals with mostly clean vocals while being melodic. Also holywatr. Also obligatory turnstile mention simply because I think you’d just enjoy them
