CONTACT (1997) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Contact is a 1997 American science fiction drama film in Panavision co-produced and directed by Robert Zemeckis, based on the 1985 novel by Carl Sagan. It stars Jodie Foster as Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway, a SETI scientist who finds evidence of extraterrestrial life and is chosen to make first contact. Matthew McConaughey, James Woods, Tom Skerritt, William Fichtner, John Hurt, Angela Bassett, Rob Lowe, Jake Busey, and David Morse co-star. It features the Very Large Array in New Mexico, the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, the Mir space station, and the Space Coast surrounding Cape Canaveral. During the scene when her father dies you seemed very focused on what was in the medicine cabinet. I do not think you noticed (if you did, I missed it) how that scene was shot? You are watching her but then it turns out you are watching her though the mirror. Many find it an interesting shot. Do you think the investigation committee/government's actions regarding hiding the proof of her going while at the same time saying there is no proof she went is what would happen in a situation like this? (spoilers if you plan to read the book, then skip this question). You talked about her having to go alone. In the book more than one person goes (five if I remember correctly). Do you think more people would have believed her/them if multiple people came back saying they went somewhere? Do you think the number of people does not matter because people will believe what they want to saying they were all in on the hoax together?
