This is based on a book, and is one of the more accurate war films. Not so fun fact - Dirk Borgarde who played General Browning plotted air strikes during ww2. He got leave late in the normandy campaign and went to paint a town. At first he did not notice it, but it looked like there a bunch of old soccer balls in an alley. Turned out this was a town he plotted for air strikes and he wiped out a bunch of kids trying to get to an air raid shelter. Those were their skulls.
