BORN ON THE FOUTH OF JULY (1989) - Full Watch Along

Born on the Fourth of July is a 1989 American epic biographical anti-war drama film that is based on the 1976 autobiography of Ron Kovic. Directed by Oliver Stone, and written by Stone and Kovic, it stars Tom Cruise, Kyra Sedgwick, Raymond J. Barry, Jerry Levine, Frank Whaley, and Willem Dafoe. The film depicts the life of Kovic (Cruise) over a 20-year period, detailing his childhood, his military service and paralysis during the Vietnam War, and his transition to anti-war activism. It is the second installment in Stone's trilogy of films about the Vietnam War, following Platoon (1986) and preceding Heaven & Earth (1993).

Another tough movie about how war changes a person and how a returning solider copes with the horrors that he experienced. Tom Cruise’s most moving performance. To the best of my recollection this is most significant character arc of any Tom Cruise character. In this film Oliver Stone makes a statement, as Oliver Stone usually does. Looking forward to seeing your reaction.

My first watch, too. I've been meaning to watch this for a long time. I can't believe it was 1989. I feel like it was just a few years ago (delusional, I know, but I guess when some of us get old we fantasize about time not really passing and not really aging). Thanks for the reactions; it makes the viewing more interesting and keeps me engaged longer.

Such a great movie, Coby - you weren't the only one to shed a tear! Definitely, Tom Cruise's best acting performance, but he was unfortunate to be up against Daniel Day-Lewis in 'My Left Foot' at the Oscars! Anyway, your reaction made it a great watch!
