After recently being introduced to the incomparable Barbra Streisand in Prince of Tides, I was excited for my second time with her for this Patreon request of the hilarious “What’s Up Doc?” - Hope you enjoy it half as much as I did! 🖤

WHAT'S UP DOC? (1972) - Full Watch Along

What's Up, Doc? is a 1972 American screwball comedy film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, and starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal. It was intended to pay homage to comedy films of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s, especially Bringing Up Baby and Warner Bros. Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Fun movie! However, your reaction tells me you’ve yet to see a Mel Brooks movie. No? There were 4 actors from Blazing Saddles in What’s Up Doc? I think you’d like Mel’s early stuff.

Late to the party but Barbra has shared that the scene with her singing atop the piano with Ryan was a real-time vocal recording. The common practice for most singing numbers is to 'loop' a studio voiceover where the sound quality can be tightly controlled. Barbra said that she doesn't do this because she sings a song slightly differently each time and can't match it to what was shot on film. I don't know if Coby has already watched director Peter Bogdanovich's (sort of) follow-up film, "Paper Moon", but it's a delight. Thank you for your reaction, Coby - glad you enjoyed "What's Up, Doc?"
