FAWLTY TOWERS S1E5 "Gourmet Night" - SERIES REACTION - First Time Watching

Fawlty Towers - Season 1, Episode 5: "Gourmet Night" Fawlty Towers is a British television sitcom written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, originally broadcast on BBC Two in 1975 and 1979. Two series of six episodes each were made. The series is set in Fawlty Towers, a dysfunctional fictional hotel in the English seaside town of Torquay in Devon. The plots centre on the tense, rude and put-upon owner Basil Fawlty (Cleese), his bossy wife Sybil (Prunella Scales), the sensible chambermaid Polly (Booth), and the hapless and English-challenged Spanish waiter Manuel (Andrew Sachs). They show their attempts to run the hotel amidst farcical situations and an array of demanding and eccentric guests and tradespeople. Hello everyone and welcome to The Coby Show! That was fun. And you taught me a new word: uncomfortability. Who cares if dictionaries include it, I like it! You will for sure have opportunities to use it again while watching this show. John Cleese talked about that stick he beat the car with; he tried several before deciding that one was the funniest.

CoCo (calling you CoCo is so FETCH!!!!) through the years there have been a great number of British sitcoms that were remade here in the US and had great success! Some of which may surprise a few people, 1) "All In The Family" was actually remade from a British sitcom called "Till Death Us Do Part" 2) "Sanford and Son" was "Steptoe and Son" 3) "Three's Company" was "Man About The House" 4) "The Office" stayed "The Office" and there are others. The reason I bring this up is because it just goes to show that somethings are best left alone because they cannot be duplicate! On three occasions, twice by ABC and once by CBS they tried to duplicate the "Fawlty Towers" formula and never came close even with stellar TV stars! ABC's first attempt was with Harvey Korman and Betty White in "Chateau Snavely" which a pilot was made but never aired. The second attempt also by ABC was a show called "Amanda" with Bea Arthur taking the lead as a female Basil which they did make 13 episodes but only 10 aired and it was cancelled. The last by CBS was called "Payne" with John Larroqutte which was also cancelled after only 8 episodes.
