SUPERMAN (2025) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Superman is a 2025 American superhero film based on the eponymous character from DC Comics. Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) and a reboot of the Superman film series. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. In the film, Superman faces unintended consequences after he intervenes in an international conflict orchestrated by billionaire Lex Luthor (Hoult). Superman must win back public support with the help of his reporter and superhero colleagues. The film was produced by Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios. This movie is based on comics from the “Silver Age,” which is 1960s-1970s. This is why there are Superman robots, Krypto, giant monsters and Lex’s technology is super-advanced. The tone is very different from Snyder’s, so it’s inevitable that different people will gravitate to one version or the other. But for me, this is much more true to Superman as an historical comic character. Snyder’s darker take doesn’t go well with Superman.

Just an FYI, this movie lives in the same universe as "The Suicide Squad" (2021) and James Gunn's DCEU streaming series' "Peacemaker"(2022) and "Creature Commandos" (2024). "Peacemaker" season 1 picks up right after the end of "The Suicide Squad" (2021) (and is teased in the 2nd end credits scene). "Creature Commandos" (2024) and "Superman" (2025) happen after "Peacemaker" season 1 and before season 2. They even re-shot some of the clips from the season 1 recap to update them from the 'Justice League' to the 'Justice Gang', including Green Lantern's deviant fetish. :) Lots of references to "Superman" (2025) in "Peacemaker" season 2, lots of cross-over character appearances, and set-up for the next movies. If you watch the next movies without watching PM season 2, you are going to have missed some important changes that are going to drive the stories in the upcoming movies (coughinsertspoilerherecough).
