Getting into the holiday season early with this one, but we could do with some laughs! I loved this request so much and it reminded me just how much everything starts with a great script! Such fun characters in this one, hope you enjoy. Reaction highlights up on YouTube tomorrow Friday December 5th, to start getting in the Christmas spirit! 🖤🎄

THE REF (1994) - Full Watch Along

The Ref (Hostile Hostages in some countries) is a 1994 American Christmas black comedy crime film directed by Ted Demme, written by Richard LaGravenese and Marie Weiss, and starring Denis Leary, Judy Davis, and Kevin Spacey. The plot centers on a burglar who, while evading capture from the police, is forced to take a bickering, dysfunctional family hostage on Christmas Eve. The burglar finds himself having to act as a de facto marriage counselor, or "referee", between the squabbling husband and wife, a situation that becomes more complicated when the husband's relatives drop by for Christmas dinner.

I love this movie

I think Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis are perfect in this movie. Their bickering is both hilarious and real. Spacey was on a roll in 1994, as "Swimming with Sharks" was also released that year, and he is even more gleefully acerbic in that one. A pitch black comedy about the movie industry. Another film that is right up your alley, Coby, although hardly anyone has seen it.

The movie originally had a different ending where Dennis Leary's character turns himself in to show Jesse that a life of crime doesn't pay. After poor reactions from test audiences, a new ending was shot, where he gets away. Also, a fun fact... This movie was shot in Summer in Ontario! The crew had to create over 400 feet of snowbanks and used thousands of pounds of bleached wood pulp to create the snow. To further have a laugh at this being a Christmas movie... Not only was it filmed in Summer... It was released to theaters in Spring! Lol

This movie is how Team Trauma does Christmas! 😂

Coby, this is the second movie I suggested that you’ve reacted to (the first was Zero Effect). Based on the strength of these I hope you’ll watch LIVING IN OBLIVION soon. I promise you’re going to love the cast and with your background in movie production you’re going to love the humor. This is only JK Simmons third credited role. Likewise, LIVING IN OBLIVION features PETER DINKLAGE’s first credited role. Also have you seen Reindeer Games? The opening credits include seven dead Santa’s in the snow. Then the story timeline jumps back so you find out how they all died. Finally about the cat piss spray: it’s to rile up the guard dog, Cannibal.

I don't know how I didn't even see this posted last month. I'd never seen this before. It was good; it reminded me a little of American Beauty. If you haven't seen it, I think you'd like it.
