My reaction to Buffy Season 7 Episode 17 "Lies My Parents Told Me".

WAITING FOR MY MOMENT — Giles returns to Sunnydale with a possible solution to the trigger in Spike used by the First. Unfortunately, Spike is not overly willing to revisit his memories in order to find the trigger's origin and why it affects him so much, leaving Giles and Wood to come up with an alternative plan of their own. While Giles distracts Buffy, Wood takes on Spike and prepares to revenge the death of his mother.

They really gave anime with spike story. Show the bad guys sad backstory as they get fucked up😂😂 Usually doesn’t get me but this one actually made me sad

I love that even with another apocalypse looming Buffy still threw on some sparkly, dangly earrings 😍

Really mixed feelings on this episode. Love the Spike stuff, love the dynamic with Principal Wood wanting revenge for his mother's death but still needing to see the old Spike as if he needs that proof that he'll never really change (or maybe deep down he knows Spike has changed and just needs that plausible deniability to kill him). I absolutely hate the stuff with Giles though, and have always thought the show did him dirty here with blatantly out of character writing (imho).

The reference to 'Dr Gull' is a really nice touch in this episode as well. That would be referring to Sir William Gull, Physician by appointment to Queen Victoria, the Doctor who named the disease Anorexia Nervosa in 1873, discovered Gull–Sutton syndrome, conducted seminal research into paraplegia and severe hypothyroidism, and who also later ended up being suspected of the Jack the Ripper murders by amateur sleuths (which is where we get the image of Jack the Ripper dressed like a Victorian gentleman and carrying a black leather bag. Crazy that Giles wanted to go straight to killing Spike rather than do something to make sure the trigger was completely deactivated If it was still active & there was no way to disable it, I’d get it Other than that, absolutely love the scenes with Spike’s backstory being revealed during the fight with Wood, and Buffy echoing Nikki Wood’s words

This episode PMO every time cuz they really took Giles away from us for so long and, while intellectually I understand the points he makes and Buffy getting a bit of pushback for her leadership decisions at times, it just feels so bad to feel like our boy Giles isn’t right 😭
