I would totally love to see you watch Steins Gate 0, i havent watched it in years but i remember enjoying that season even more than this one honestly the whole show is so good! Also this anime was actually adapted from the visual novel so there are so many different choices and alternate timelines that this story has to explore and this was just one of the routes. Don't really remember too much about the movie but from what im seeing online, its more so taking place after the whole series finishes including Steins Gate 0 so if you are to continue, I'd suggest going to the episode 25 then there's an episode 23b that you need to watch that kinda leads into Steins Gate 0 then you can finish off with the movie . If anyone wants to correct me on that they can but this is what i was seeing online and this is how i watched it which was perfectly fine.

This is a timely comment because I was about to start 0 today but I forgot about the whole 23b thing, so thanks for the reminder. Okay so what's going to happen is this Sat episode 25 will drop, then the movie on Monday. Then the following Sat I'll do episode 23b, and then that following Monday I'll start in on 0.

"It's odd that the earth is moving so the time machine must be" - they make a huge deal in the visual novel about this, and how the time machine uses gravitational tracking or something to ensure it appears in the same place on earth. Ditto for the "what fuels it" question you raise. In general they have a lot more details on how the time machine works in the source material (Kurisu's lecture is presented basically in full!) but they might have given too much detail xD
