Went to reddit to see if anybody had any answers for why he didnt use the money. I found two good answers. I like to think that Seita didn't withdraw all of the money because he was holding on to some hope that his father was still alive. When the doctor wouldn't help his sister out when she was suffering from malnutrition, that was the final straw. He had to give up. He learned that Japan had surrendered and his father was likely dead shortly after he withdrew the money, too. It could also be that by then, the war was technically over so food was then available to buy. Otherwise I imagine there'd be rations, he couldn't just go and buy whatever he wanted.

Dont really get why you dont consider this one of the best animated films of all time. i think it deserves to be called that.
