Chapter 36 – Ideology and Idolism

Your shadow, quietly
Like a vagrant poison needle,
Stitches my footsteps.

Your radiance, lithely
Like lightning striking a water tower,
Cuts down the source of my life.

Zaraki stood across from Captain Komamura and Captain Tōsen in the training ground atop the manmade plateau. Now that the Lieutenants and the Seated Officers had departed, the three Captains had been left to start their own battle.

“Now we can finally fight.” Zaraki said with a wide grin on his scarred face. “There’s only half as many of you now, but how could I refuse my subordinates’ wishes?” He asked the other two Captains rhetorically. “At least this can be my morning workout.”

“Still talking big? That’s what makes me think…” Komamura unsheathed his Zanpakutō and swung it with force, shattering the tiled ground in front of himself. “…that you’re overrating yourself, Zaraki!!!” The large Captain roared out.

Zaraki looked mildly interested at the display of strength as Komamura’s Reiatsu began to clash with his. “You shattered the ground with just the pressure of your sword. Not bad.”

“Are you ready?!” Komamura swung his Zanpakutō in a downward slash.

“Hm?” Zaraki’s eyes widened slightly as a massive armored hand and with an equally huge sword materialized right in front of him and mimicked the same strike as Komamura.

BOOM

The plateau training grounds cracked, the walkway up to the top of the plateau shattered and fall to the ground as nothing more than rubble. Thick clouds of dust rose high into the air from the single blow.

Tōsen leapt high into the air over the rising cloud of dust. “Take two steps back, Komamura. He might still attack. I’ll take away his limbs.” The blind Captain drew his Zanpakutō and fluidly activated his Shikai in the same motion. “Suzumushi Nishiki…Benihikō! (Bell Bug, Second Movement, Flying Locusts)” A single swing of his Zanpakutō conjured hundreds of full-length sword blades through the path of his sword. With but a thought the hundreds of blades rained down on the cloud of dust where Zaraki was like a meteor shower.

THOOM

The continuous force shattered more of the plateau, sending part of the structure falling like a landslide into the nearby area of the Seireitei. The thick clouds of dust and debris obscured anyone’s view that was looking in the direction of the, now destroyed, training ground.

“It’s over.” Komamura said with certainty. “Not even the great Kenpachi Zaraki could survive that. There won’t be any trace of him left.”

Tōsen landed beside Komamura and both men flinched just slightly when Zaraki’s Reiatsu not only didn’t vanish, but swelled noticeably.

The dust cloud was blown away by a mere flex of Zaraki’s Reiatsu as he stood tall, impaled through both shoulders, both arms, and his back by no less than eleven of the blades that Tōsen had conjured and rained down on him. Blood stained his Captain’s haori, a bit of the red liquid even dripping onto the ground, but it looked like Zaraki hadn’t even moved a step from the attacks.

“What? That’s all you’ve got?” Zaraki looked amused at the lack of damage done to him by the other two Captains.

It can’t be… He survived both my Tenken and Tōsen’s Benihikō.’ Komamura thought to himself, his eyes narrowing into a glare behind his helmet. ‘And he’s still standing.

Zaraki pulled out one of the blades in his shoulder and tossed it aside uncaringly. “I take back what I said.” He pulled another blade out of his body and let it fall to the ground. “This won’t even wake me up.” The rest of the blades still impaled into Zaraki’s body visibly shook for a second before being launched out to clatter across the destroyed training ground. “I’m gonna chop you two to pieces and end this now.” He narrowed his lone visible eye onto the other two Captains.

Komamura and Tōsen both used Shunpo to attack Zaraki at the same time, bringing their Zanpakutō down on him in powerful overhead swings.

Clang

The sound of metal striking metal rang out loudly as Zaraki blocked with his battered and worn Zanpakutō. As metal ground against metal, Zaraki sneered at Tōsen.

“Stop exposing your vulnerability by being fearful of every little attack!” Zaraki kicked Tōsen in the stomach so hard that the other Captain flew backwards and slammed into the far wall. The force alone practically made the wall explode, sending more debris raining down on the area below the plateau.

“Tōsen!” Komamura looked at where his friend had impacted the wall amid the cloud of dust and debris. Zaraki grabbing his forearm with enough strength to crack his forearm guard made the Captain of Squad Seven quickly look back at his opponent.

“That goes for you too, fool!” Zaraki roared as he slammed Komamura into the ground with a shoulder throw. Another near explosion happened as Komamura’s large body shattered the ground, cratering it beneath both of the Captains’ feet. “Tch! Are you serious?!” Zaraki growled as he kicked away a large chunk of stone from the damaged ground. “And you call yourselves Captains?!” He stood over Komamura’s prone form with his Zanpakutō resting against his shoulder. “Get up. You’re not dead yet. Before I kill you, at least act like a Captain and show me your Bankai!”

Komamura growled as he pushed himself up and glared at Zaraki from behind his helmet. “Who do you think you are?! Bankai? Against a traitor like you?!” He stood to his full height as he readied his Zanpakutō.

Tōsen approached Komamura from behind, his Reiatsu rising. “Wait, Komamura…” He raised Suzumushi in front of him horizontally. “I’ll do it.” The Zanpakutō began to glow with Tōsen’s Reiryoku as Shinigami and Zanpakutō resonated with each other. A flick of his wrist and Tōsen placed his right index finger through the ring on Suzumushi’s guard and began to spin his Zanpakutō like a propeller, faster and faster, all the while his Reiatsu steadily rose. “I’ve had a strong suspicion…ever since you made Captain by killing the previous Captain of Squad Eleven.”

“Oh?” Zaraki didn’t much care what Tōsen thought of him.

“I’ve always thought that you were a monster… Spreading carnage and thirsting for blood… ‘He’s not like the rest of us.’ Is what I thought.” Tōsen said as he walked closer and closer to Zaraki, his sword still spinning. “I fully believed that you couldn’t be allowed to stay. That you would eventually destroy the peace of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads.”

Komamura looked between Tōsen and Zaraki, knowing that his friend had wanted to speak his true thoughts about the current Kenpachi for a long time.

“And, in fact, at this moment you are assisting the ryoka, fighting against us, and bringing chaos.” Tōsen said, as if he were listing off the crimes of his fellow Captain. “All because you hunger for bloodshed. Am I wrong, Zaraki?”

“Preach to someone who cares.” Zaraki said with a bored look on his face from all the talking. “You’re the good guys and I’m the bad, right?” He smirked at Tōsen. “Hmph! Why don’t you just say it? If you hate me so much why don’t you use your Bankai on me?!” It was a clear challenge and provocation from the battle-loving Zaraki.

“No. I’m not saying that I hate you.” Tōsen caught his spinning sword by the hilt as easily as if it had been stationary. “I’m saying that you’re beyond redemption! By word and deed you’ve broken the peace!” he held his Zanpakutō behind him with his outstretched right arm before swinging it forward until the ring on the guard met his left palm, his blade now pointing vertically towards the sky. “This isn’t personal…but…I must eliminate you to restore the peace.”

“Tōsen…” Komamura felt the spike of his friend’s already high Reiatsu and leapt across the large missing section of the half destroyed training ground to land on the opposite side. He needed to make this much distance just to avoid getting caught up in Tōsen’s Bankai.

The ring on the guard of Suzumushi began to spin rapidly, emitting a low hum. A second later and Tōsen spread his arms apart, while the ring expanded until its diameter matched Tōsen’s height. The ring rotated until it was parallel with the ground and then nine more rings seemed to flow off of the first, materializing from nothing. With a swing of his sword, the ten rings flew off into the distance and then stopped, now surrounding the half-demolished training ground in a circle.

“Ban…kai.” Tōsen said and from within the spinning rings pitch black Reiryoku poured out like inverted light. In the next instant, Zaraki heard the chirp of a cricket before everything went black and silent. “Suzumushi Tsuishiki: Enma-Kōrogi. (Bell Bug Closing Ceremony: Field Cricket)”

The entire area surrounding the training field was now enclosed in a black sphere. The newly formed black void was anchored to the ground outside via tethers from each of the ten rings that now sat against the edges of the sphere. Within the Bankai’s range, if anyone could actually see anything, each of the rings had a unique Kanji within them. All of them, however, were of rather morbid things like: Skeleton, Squander, Pitiful, Fester, Blood, and other macabre words that didn’t seem to fit the supposedly peaceful Captain of Squad Nine.

“This is my Bankai.” Tōsen said to Zaraki as he walked closer to the Squad Eleven Captain, his sword held out to his side. “This entire space is my Bankai.” He walked straight up to the towering form of Zaraki. “What do you think, Zaraki? I doubt even you could have imagined such a sight.” Tōsen said as he walked past the other man. “Although you probably can’t see anything now.”

What’s going on?’ Zaraki wondered to himself. ‘I can’t see anything. I can’t hear anything either.’ There was a brief instant of awareness filled with the stinging pain of a cut opening up on his shoulder…but everything was dark and silent again before Zaraki could really notice.

Tōsen flicked the blood off his sword after slashing Zaraki from behind. “How does it feel to suddenly be in a world devoid of light and sound?” He asked the man that couldn’t hear him. “Terrifying, isn’t it? The Enma-Kōrogi deprives the senses of sight, hearing, smell, and even spiritual sense…drawing you into an empty black hell.”

Zaraki reached out behind him, where he thought he’d been attacked from, to try and grab Tōsen.

“It’s no use.” Tōsen said as he easily dodged the grasping hand and sliced Zaraki’s side this time, sending blood flying through the air. It was almost cathartic to get to slice up Zaraki where no one could see him enjoying it. “You won’t capture me by trying to guess where I’ll strike from next. Even the most skilled swordsman feels a twinge of fear in total darkness. That fear slows their reactions… But I was born into a world without light-”

Bam

Tōsen’s monologue was cut off as he was nearly hit by Zaraki’s sword, the ground shattering a bit beneath the blade. “What?!” He skipped backwards out of range of the other Captain’s Zanpakutō. ‘Is he…?’ Tōsen wondered, only to practically feel the manic smile that Zaraki had on his face. “Ha! I should’ve known. You are a monster. You’re right at home in this black hell. You never felt a moment of fear.” He held Suzumushi at the ready as he charged towards Zaraki. “Very well! Then I won’t waste any more time!”

I feel his sword every time that it touches me.’ Zaraki thought to himself with a wild grin. ‘If I can feel it…then I can counter it!’ A brief feeling, less than words, passed along the periphery of Zaraki’s mind…not even a thought, really. It was more akin to someone pantomiming to him. ‘Like Yachiru when she was little and raised her arms towards me when she wanted to be picked up.’ Zaraki thought to himself about this new sensation. But it solidified the idea that he’d just come up with all the more.

The pressure of a blade hit Zaraki’s Captain’s haori. The special cloth slowed the incoming swing a bit now that Zaraki was focusing his Reiatsu more. The blade managed to cut through the haori and touch his shihakushō, the armor-like cloth reinforced by Zaraki’s rising Reiatsu. Just as the blade touched his skin, having lost a bit of momentum already from the clashing Reiatsu, awareness returned to Zaraki.

“Hah!” Zaraki grabbed the blade, trapping it with both his left hand and his left arm as it pushed the cutting edge against his nearly armor-like skin, purely from how much Reiatsu he was focusing into his body. Blood fell from the cut, staining his shihakushō and Captain’s haori with more red, but Suzumushi was trapped now. “Well, hello!” He gave Tosen a manic smile. “Done hiding in the dark?” He didn’t give Tōsen a chance to respond as his jagged blade sliced the other Captain from shoulder to hip in a bloody spray, nearly tearing his flesh as opposed to cutting it. “I think a broke a few ribs there!” Zaraki mentioned as Tōsen reeled in shock and agony from the unexpected blow.

“Im-Impossible…” Tōsen hacked out even as his blood splashed onto the ground, forming a puddle beneath him.

BOOM

The black sphere of Tōsen’s Bankai exploded into pieces as the man was reeling and on the verge of death from the horrendous wound that he’d just taken. A Bankai dispelling itself was most often a sign that its user was close to death. That was a well-known fact among those that had attained Bankai.

“I’m done.” Zaraki huffed out, his face unamused. “It’s no fun fighting someone that’s half-dead from a single swing.” He let go of Suzumushi and turned away from Tōsen.

“Not…yet…” Tōsen said as he stabbed his Zanpakutō into Zaraki’s back. The tip of the blade couldn’t even penetrate Zaraki’s Captain’s haori now. The damage that Tōsen had suffered was too severe, his body lacked strength and his Reiryoku was heavily depleted from utilizing Bankai and having it forcibly broken. “I will stop you… In the name of justice…I must stop you.”

Zaraki looked back at Tōsen with a flat expression. “Save it.” He turned around and raised his Zanpakutō high to cut down the other man. “If you’re that eager to die, then just die.”

Crack

Both Zaraki and Tōsen widened their eyes at seeing Komamura suddenly between them. He’d blocked Zaraki’s sword with his forearm guard and his large helmet, but the black and nearly shattered both.

“Komamura…” Tōsen said with a raspy breath.

“That’s enough.” Komamura pushed back Zaraki’s blade with his arm as he stood to his full height again. “This one will never understand.” He looked at his friend on the ground as the wooden helmet shattered more. “You’ve done enough.”

Zaraki found himself honestly surprised as the last of the helmet fell apart and clattered to the ground, revealing Komamura’s features. “Well, this is a surprise. I always wondered what you were hiding beneath that basket. But I didn’t expect this.”

Komamura’s head was not that of a man, but of a wolf. His golden eyes looked at Zaraki almost contemplatively for a moment. “You don’t seem very surprised.”

“Well, looks count for little in a fight.” Zaraki said simply, not concerned about Komamura’s appearance in the slightest. “What matters is not whether you look like a beast, but if you can fight like one. That’s all.”

“Your mistake is getting caught up in the appearance of strength and not seeing the true strength of your opponent, Zaraki.” Komamura said as his Reiatsu spiked and a reddish aura appeared around him as the air shook. “I’m not as kind as Tōsen.” Komamura raised his Zanpakutō into the air as he turned to face Zaraki. “Ban…kai!”

The area far behind Komamura erupted into a massive cloud of dust and smoke as part of the already ruined training ground was crushed under the weight and oppressive Reiatsu of the titanic armored figure that had suddenly materialized. It was clearly a warrior in black armor with an orange face hidden behind a black face cloth that hid everything but its eyes. The giant’s hand crashed down on the training ground plateau while it held out its colossal sword in the same stance that Komamura had taken up.

Red Reiryoku poured off Komamura as he roared out his Bankai’s name. “Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō! (Divine Retribution, Black Ropes of Ruination)”

Zaraki had a wild smile on his face and his single visible eye was wide in excitement. “Hahaha!” He readied his Zanpakutō with thrilled laughter.

“Come, Kenpachi Zaraki!” Komamura bellowed at Zaraki. “Time for the killing that you love so much!”

“Killing, eh?!” Zaraki shouted back, still laughing wildly. “I love it, all right! If that’s what you want, I won’t hold back!” His thick yellow Reiryoku exploded into an aura around him, as much as he could draw out with his eyepatch still on. “If you die, come back as a ghost and we’ll do it again!”

Shhhhnnnnn

Something between a buzz and a hum filled the air, even piercing through the clashing Reiatsu of the two Captains.

Both Komamura and Zaraki glanced over towards Sōkyoku Hill, feeling it as the source of the sudden immense Reiatsu that nearly pulsed throughout the Seireitei.

“That’s…” Komamura recognized one of the tremendous Reiatsu signatures.

“Yeah, looks like something fun has started over there.” Zaraki could recognize both Byakuya and Ichigo’s Reiatsu when it was this high.

Off to the side, tending to his wounds with all of the emergency medical aid he had on his person at the moment, Tōsen was breathing heavily as he put some distance between himself and the upcoming fight between Komamura and Zaraki. But even in his heavily injured state, his mind was forced back to clarity for a moment as the clashing Reiatsu of two Shinigami of the highest of noble bloodlines pressed against his finely honed spiritual sense.

Impossible… Even if the ryoka was born of Aizen’s machinations, and of Shiba blood at that… It’s inconceivable that he’d be this strong in less than a year.’ Tōsen thought to himself just before Ichigo’s insane Reiatsu suddenly vanished entirely from everyone’s senses.

-Forest Beneath Sōkyoku Hill-

A single leaf fluttered through the light breeze.

Thwack

Soi Fon and Yoruichi’s legs impacted, kick meeting kick, for a brief instant before they were gone.

The single leaf cleanly split in half, having been caught between the two kicks, and both halves fluttered towards the ground.

Yoruichi reappeared on one of the many large branches within this old section of forest that had been mostly left alone for the majority of the Seireitei’s history. She crossed her arms and gave soi Fon a confident little grin the instant that her former protégé appeared on a branch across from hers.

“I see now, just because you’ve been gone a long time doesn’t mean that your skills have improved.” Soi Fon said to Yoruichi with a hint of amusement in her tone.

“Looks to me like you’ve lost your touch.” Yoruichi commented on their fight so far, the little grin becoming a small, confident smile.

“That young ryoka was wearing a Tentōken (Heaven-Stepping Adornment), I briefly saw the Shihōin Clan Mon on it. You gave it to him, didn’t you?” Soi Fon deduced as she held Yoruichi’s gaze.

“Yes.” Yoruichi answered easily. “He needed to be able to fly to save Rukia.”

Soi Fon got a small smirk on her own face upon hearing that. “How low the Tenshi Heisōban (Guard of the Heavenly Granted Armaments) has fallen. If they find out that you’ve helped a ryoka, you’ll be banished from the Four Great Noble Clans.” She mockingly chastised Yoruichi. “The Shiba Clan has already fallen from their noble title. It’s never pleasant to see great Clans fall.”

“You’re talkative today. Excited to see your mentor after all these years? Or is this just pent-up resentment? Well, Commander of the Onmitsukidō, which is it?” Yoruichi asked, her arms still crossed and her smile just as confident. “Were my shoes too big for you to fill?”

“Don’t fool yourself. Did you really think that I wouldn’t surpass you one day?” Soi Fon questioned as she grasped the hilt of her Zanpakutō, her former idol’s words getting to her more than she wanted to let on. Yoruichi merely smirked a little at clearly getting under Soi Fon’s skin. “I control the entirety of the Onmitsukidō now!” She unsheathed her Zanpakutō and stabbed it into the tree branch that she was standing on. “Your time has passed, Shihōin Yoruichi!”

Yoruichi’s golden eyes actually widened slightly as several dozen men, all wearing the uniform of the Onmitsukidō, appeared around the area, standing on branches, against the trees, and every last one of them were perfectly similar, shaved heads and black masks that covered everything below their eyes. One of them was even withing arm’s reach of Yoruichi.

Their technique is certainly up to par, being able to move so silently, while maintaining both Reiatsu concealment and Shunpo speed. It seems that Soi Fon has drilled them well. However…’ Yoruichi thought to herself as she noticed that not a single member of this iteration of the Onmitsukidō had enough strength to be more than a Fifth or Sixth Seat at best. Back when she’d been running the Onmitsukidō, Soi Fon had been close to Lieutenant level as her direct protégé, but all of the group leaders had been around Third Seat in strength as Yoruichi focused on individual strength as well as group work and technique.

“This is the difference between you and me.” Soi Fon stated pointedly, wanting to show her former idol that she’d moved beyond what she had been a century ago. “As you know, when the leader of the Onmitsukidō draws her sword, it signifies an execution. Anyone who opposes me will be utterly destroyed.” She narrowed her eyes at Yoruichi. “That includes former commanders, of course.” An almost vindictive gleam appeared in Soi Fon’s gaze. “You abandoned your position. You have nowhere to run, Yoruichi!”

Yoruichi merely loosened the beige cloth around her neck with a bored look on her face. In the next instant, less than the time it took to blink, every member of the Onmitsukidō was being struck by Yoruichi in a blur. Her movements were so swift that to the eyes of almost anyone, it would look like thirty Yoruichi’s were striking every black-clad man simultaneously.

Soi Fon’s eyes widened as her men fell before her, around her, and some were even launched over her head from the force that they’d been struck with. In only a second her force had been wiped out and now she once more stood alone with her former mentor.

“You forget who you’re dealing with, Soi Fon.” Yoruichi said, standing in the same place as she started. “Yes, I abandoned my position.” She smirked at Soi Fon, her golden eyes gleaming with amusement. “But I don’t recall ever abandoning my nickname!”

“Flash Goddess, Yoruichi…” Soi Fon said lowly with a small grimace. “I see. Then there’s no other way.” She quickly undid her obi and pulled her modified Captain’s haori off and tossed it onto the branch behind her. “I’ll have to rip apart that name of yours with my own hands.” She now wore the backless shihakushō of the Onmitsukidō Commander. The sleeveless version was only held up by a single strap going behind her neck, and her arms were covered by black arm warmers made from a special material. Even the legs of the shihakushō were specifically modified to give more freedom of leg movement, showing off the outside of Soi Fon’s thighs all the way up to her hips. “You were my mentor, my idol for a time…but those days are long gone.”

Yoruichi’s playful look had disappeared, now looking at Soi Fon with a serious expression that gave nothing away. ‘I guess it’s time to face the consequences of my past choices.

-Seireitei ~ The Old District-

Kyōraku and Ukitake appeared in twin blurs within the middle of the old, abandoned district on the edge of the Seireitei. A place that had fallen into disrepair long ago and the glacial speed of most of the decision-making and politicking within the Seireitei had seen its restoration delayed for decades now.

It was the perfect place, far away from anyone, for three of the most powerful Captains to fight without hurting others by accident.

“This should be far enough.” Kyōraku said with a small smile on his face.

“Yes. No one will get hurt this far out.” Ukitake agreed with his best friend.

Nanao appeared in a blur of Shunpo a moment later, breathing heavily from crossing so much distance while using the technique over and over again.

“You’re last, Nanao~!” Kyōraku teased his Lieutenant with a grin.

“You were too fast!” Nanao shot back as she recovered some of her breath. Her voice caught in her throat as her eyes went wide behind her glasses.

Sitting on a large stone a short distance away from the three that had just arrived was Yamamoto, the old man looked like he’d been waiting for them, in fact. He even had both of his hands atop his gnarled wooden walking stick.

Kyōraku let out a put-upon sigh. “Oh. You’re early.”

“My quarry never escapes. Whether it be Hollows, traitors, ryoka, or even two little brats causing trouble.” Yamamoto said as he stood up, his eyes staring his two former pupils down. “Come, you rascals.” The air around Yamamoto began to waver in a heat haze. “But don’t think that you’ll get off with just a light thrashing this time.” His Reiatsu began to rise and press down on the entire area, while also increasing the ambient temperature at the same time.

None of them knew just WHO was the traitor, nor if they were being surveilled right at this moment. But for their plan to bait out the traitors with the unsealed Sōkyoku, which they believed to be the true target of this century-long series of misfortunes, it was imperative that they make this fight seem real.

It only got a brief notice from the three Captains when Byakuya and Ichigo’s Reiatsu clash resounded throughout the Seireitei. To the sharp senses and centuries of experience that the three had, it was clear that both men had activated Bankai and unleashed the remarkable power inherent to those of the Five Great Noble Clans of Seireitei. When Ichigo’s Reiatsu suddenly vanished, neither Ukitake nor Kyōraku knew what to make of it. Ichigo clearly wasn’t defeated, given that Byakuya’s Reiatsu was still rising and clashing with something, but neither of them understood just what had transpired.

Another like myself? It has been quite some time.’ Yamamoto thought as he understood why Ichigo’s immense Reiatsu would suddenly disappear after activating his Bankai.

The Seireitei would continue to seemingly fight the ryoka and itself for now, until the ones hiding in the shadows finally made their move.

No monologuing, Tōsen! Shut the fuck up and fight!

Zaraki finished off Tōsen faster than in Canon and with less injuries. But what’s this strange new feeling or ‘pantomiming’ that appears in his mind and brings back memories of when Yachiru was still a baby?

I think you all know…probably.

Now Komamura is pissed and bringing his Bankai out to fight Zaraki.

Yoruichi and Soi Fon begin their battle as well! Soi Fon thinks she’s surpassed her old mentor, her idol. But Yoruichi displays a fraction of her skill to let Soi Fon know that even out of practice, the Flash Goddess is still Shihōin-motherfucking-Yoruichi!

The bout between Yamamoto vs Kyōraku and Ukitake is about to begin as well! EVERYONE that’s not at least Captain level should clear the area as fast as they can…Nanao!

How will the battles continue now?

Keep reading to find out!

Until I get your reviews, later!

Great chapter I was hoping to get some more of Ichigo and Byakuya action but seeing Zaraki getting closer to unlocking his Shikai more than makes up for it. Though I'm curious if you will make any changes to the Yoruichi Vs Soi-Fon fight like either Soi-Fon getting so frustrated at her lack of ability against Yoruichi she uses her Bankai or Yoruichi using her Shikai in battle after more than 100 years. Either way I can't wait to see more hopefully next month

Kairomaru

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm kind of doing what the manga did, showing the beginning of Ichigo vs Byakuya and then showing all of the other fights before finishing off strong with the rest of the Ichigo vs Byakuya fight. We also will check in on Rangiku and Toshiro as well as Orihime, Tatsuki, Chad, and Ganju. The good thing is, I'm not taking like 15 chapters between the start of Ichigo vs Byakuya and the continuation of the fight like the manga did. As for Yoruichi, she's going to display that Soi Fon isn't as advanced as she thinks she is, like Canon...but perhaps with a twist of my own thrown in.

Cory Duff

Loving these chapters. Did Ichigo's reiatsu grow so much that everyone but Yamamoto couldn't sense it? Are you going to create a Bankai for Ukitake since we never see it in canon?

Kairomaru

Happy you like the chapter! No, his Reiatsu is pulled into his body and his Bankai armor, remember? No Reiatsu leaks out, so there's nothing to sense. It multiplies Ichigo's innate defense by A LOT when he enters Bankai. Yes, Ukitake will get a Bankai, no worries there! I have an idea already too!

Cory Duff

Ok I forgot about his armor, but why does Yamamoto says another like himself? I thought his Bankai just made literal hell.

Kairomaru

Because Yamamoto's Bankai is a 'Compression Type', instead of making a huge construct/creature/effect, it compresses all his power down into the single blade of Zanka no Tachi. It has abilities that can be more widespread, but at its core, Zanka no Tachi does the opposite of most Bankai. Ichigo's, both in Canon and in this story is also a 'Compression Type' Bankai as it drags in all of Ichigo's power into a small point, rather than expand it into some massive thing.

Justin

Does anyone else think Soi Fon might end up jealous of ichigo's bankai? I mean given how she feels about hers and the fact that ichigo's dampens his spiritual pressure, seems like it might be a fun side plot.

Redpyramid

Another great chapter can’t wait to see what ichigo’s bankai is and what the aftermath is since Yamato officially knows that Ichigo is a shiba clan member and where isshin is since it’s hinted that he knew in the manga but let it slide

savitar

I never understood Tousen, he wasn't exactly the strongest of the captains. All his strength was due to a Banaki that could give him a possible victory, however if you have the skills to overcome it said Bankai is a joke. Yoruichi is the bitch of bitches, Soifon has a lot to learn (bets are being placed on when she finds out about Yoruichi's sexual interest in Ichiha lol). and old man Yama seems happy that someone like him has appeared among the shinigami, maybe now he can retire lol. Great chapter

Kairomaru

Soi Fon's Bankai fits her quite well actually. Her Shikai is how she presents herself, a deadly assassin. Her Bankai is how she really is, someone that wants to be seen and praised...so it's huge, loud, and powerful as fuck.

Kairomaru

Happy you enjoyed the chapter! You've already seen Ichigo's Bankai last chapter, but to see what it does is going to be another chapter or so, THEN you'll see what wielding one of the Four Fundamental Forces can do!

Kairomaru

Tosen was a hypocrite, plain and simple. He preached justice but was actually a sadist that enjoyed taunting and tormenting others...as long as he wasn't seen doing it. Look at how he repeated attacked Zaraki in Canon with dozens of non-lethal blows when he could've just struck Zaraki's vitals and ended him before he figured out the trick of Tosen's Bankai. The man was just a two-faced liar, honestly. Yoruichi IS the baddest bitch, yes! lol Soi Fon might be pouty when she realizes that Yoruichi is getting with Ichigo. Heh! Yamamoto merely finds it interesting that Ichigo's Bankai is a 'Compression Type' like his own Zanka no Tachi. He's not considering Ichigo a replacement for himself, because as he said in Canon: "The reason that I've remained Captain Commander of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads for the last thousand years is because, in those thousand years, no Shinigami has been born that was stronger than me." Happy you enjoyed the chapter!

Honestly it bothers me a lot that Tosen gets respect from Komamura when he's essentially a traitor. He doesn't do it for justice but for revenge, however Komamura in canon still respected him, what the fuck really? The guy betrays what it means to be a shinigami, does he want to kill his friend's murderer? well do it damn it, but he doesn't want that. No, what he wants is for everyone to pay, simple as that. Will Soifon use her bankai on Ichihigo? It's a very real possibility. As for Yamamoto... can you imagine if by chance he took Ichigo as a student? I say this because there is no one who knows more and has mastered the skills of a shinigami more than the man. He has a lot to teach honestly, his death was a waste.

AH gets fucked Tosen when you have to kill someone kill him don't talk. I wonder how long before Komamura get his bankai cut in two. Oh Soi Fon your all career. My boy Ichigo will have his hip and waist broken by Yoruichi when the time come. Epic threeway captain fight incoming. Thank you for the chapter but fuck the wait between update is killing me.

Jeremie

Kenpachi learning early now that's a frightening thought lol. Tosen is a little bitch probably got bent over quite a bit by Aizen since he couldn't seem to do anything without Aizen's permission

Hellwyrm

An interesting chapter, I look forward to seeing how Zaraki and Komamura's fight pans out, as well as what Ichigo's Bankai is capable of. If I make it to the next chapter anyways, fucking cancer diagnosis about to cost me most of my right lung.

Kairomaru

Yap-yap gets the slap-slap! lol Soi Fon is very much Career Woman, yes. Perhaps she'll be a bit pouty when she finds out that Yoruichi is riding Ichigo to her heart's content every night? Heh! Happy you enjoyed the chapter, but I don't technically control the wait because it's a Tier Reward-Only story...sorry.

Kairomaru

Kenpachi: **Starts learning how to commune with his Zanpakuto WAY earlier, which will only make him even STRONGER** Enemies: **TERRIFIED SCREAMING**

Kairomaru

Well, we all know what happened between Komamura and Zaraki in Canon...and I sort of want to keep that in here just for the laughs. I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering from cancer, my friend. I lost my mother to cancer too. I fucking hate that class of diseases SO FUCKING MUCH!!! I wish you a health and a speedy recovery and to be cancer-free for the rest of your life.

DanielJ27

Oh god Kenpachi's learning about his Zanpaukto and he still has those kendo lessons that Yamamoto taught him RUNNNNNN AWWAAYYYYYY!

Kairomaru

You'd have to be a Secretary of Defense to be able to choose it every month, but those three spots rarely open up.

Jeremie

the screaming part might not happen depending on how annoying the enemy. If they're extremely annoying he might just end them right away before they even have a chance to realize how bad they fucked up

Like Kai, i have also lost family to cancer. two of my grandfathers, (mums parents divorced and remarried, so i actually have 3 set of grandparents) and my favorite Aunt all got done in by that fucking disease. so i am VERY sorry to hear about your diagnosis. its not just the fact that it kills, its the slow deterioration that happens as you watch the victim wither away. that right there is the worst part. so i very much hope and pray for your safe recovery. (considering the fact i walked away from religion years ago for personal reasons? me praying for anything is a big deal.)

Tosens Hypocrasy and whining were one of my biggest complaints about Bleach. plus how much he infected Hisagi with his bullshit.
