Wanted to know if people would prefer the in universe male characters or the normal faceless male. For instance the Palutena set would have Icarus by that standard.

Just kinda depends on the theme, but still doesn't make too much of a difference imo. Using Palutena as an example, a faceless ntr scene/set/captioned set would be good, but having Magnus be the one ntring Pit is even better.

never really got ntr, i think any faceless would be ntr by that standard then since it isn't the one they end up with or an established character

Most people will agree that it should be dealer's choice. If you try to be too ethical, you're going to corral yourself into a place where you don't want to be. Sure Pitt/Palutena is a thing but he also 'looks' like a tween and is depicted as such despite being hundreds if not thousands of years old. Like with me, I'd rather see Erza Scarlet get rammed by almost anyone else other than Jellal even though that's a canon couple because of personal reasons. It can shift back and forth between characters depending on the mood. At least if you make it faceless, people can do the work of inserting whoever into that role - even themselves.
