First, thanks for making my Sunday! This is an excellent episode, seconded only by the next one! Some observations: Yes, I am pretty sure the derelect ship that Johnson gives Avasarala is the same one that they shot up at Thoth station from S2E2. (I actually didn't figure out that on my own, another reactor came up with that theory and it makes total sense!) The launch of the Navou is one of the most spectacular CGI scenes I have ever witnessed! The tugs are kind of like actual tug boats on Earth moving around big ocean sailing vessels but are so cool to watch! Your discussion of rockets was interesting because of course that approach (reusing the rockets is one that started in the Apollo age and has continued on to the private space rocket programs. However with the fusion drives they use, the way space travel is sped up is by using fusion to accelerate over time and then half way to your destination you do a flip and burn and then decelerate the rest of the way using the same fusion reaction drive. So the rockets are super important to the whole doomed push Eros into the sun project. I can't recall if I have said this before but the Guy Molinari Belter ship is using the name of an actual long time politician from Staten Island ( I lived in NYC area for many years so knew of him). It is also the name of one of the Staten Island Ferries (fittingly!) and one of The Expanse writers used to ride on the Guy Molinari for his commute. I just love how they fit in interesting ship names like that into the story. (if you have seen The Martian, they use the name Mark Watney at some point in the books, so NOT a spoiler!! and if you haven't seen The Martian, do so immediately!!) They also use the name Sally Ride for an MCRN ship in the books, one of the first female Shuttle astronauts, another very cool touch! Anyhow, you may recall seeing in S2E1 that very same Doctor from the Marasmus is on the news feed in the med bay of the Roci talking on TV about Eros. Again, just spectacular attention to detail. As a physician I am guessing he belongs to an organization similar to today's Doctors without Borders, (Medicine San Frontiers) although there are any number of humanitarian organizations in the world.... In E3 Miller says : The stars are better off without us. Clearly open to many interpretations. And one other Jules you may have heard of, Jules Verne. Very well known Scifi author before it was called scifi! But tough to read in case you try. Great reaction and I hope you are enjoying E5 right now!!
