Well since I went on mini-spiel about Russia, there's been updates that give me pause. We'll see how it turns out.

I don’t usually watch these political videos as most of it goes right over my head. I am a black girl, grew up in poverty etc. I am not sure about this whole critical race theory thing I’m not sure I understand it. So I am in the Deep South where if I go down the road you’ll see nothing but trucks and confederate flags and I’ll get dirty looks if I walk into a place where majority is white. It would be nice if people saw me and not just as some black girl, I do have a personality outside of my skin but the “I don’t see color” is complete BS. I remember I took this class and I was the only black girl there and all eyes were on me when someone brought up I forgot what it was but something about slavery. Wasn’t really racist but it’s very uncomfortable. In school we did learn about race throughout elementary to high school, my schools were majority black and Hispanic and there were a handful of white kids if I went to a less diverse school it may have been a different story. Also I just I want to say I do not support BLM, I don’t like how we only focus on whites killing us but don’t talk about the crap that goes in our community our internal racism and ignoring the violence we do to one another. The colorism is a big problem in our community. I’ve been called a coon and Oreo by other black people for sharing this opinion, been told I act white majority of my life. I don’t speak for all black people this is just my two cents. It’s just so hard for me to pick a side as I’ve seen both of it we do the most and we do sometimes act up when cops pull us over I can’t deny that, the problem is for those of us who don’t fit into that mold we’re automatically judge for someone else’s actions. It was interesting hearing about your life and what you grew up I do like hearing other peoples perspectives. I always tend to go off track when typing comments I hope this made sense and didn’t offend anyone!

I agree that “I don’t see color” is definitely bs. We should be trying to understand, appreciate, and celebrate different cultures, not pretend that they don’t exist. I’m sorry about the racism that you have to deal with in the Deep South. Regarding the Black on Black crime, what I’ve heard from every Black community leader is that it’s a huge discussion within the community and they do everything they can to help stop it from happening. It just doesn’t get talked about much in the news because to paraphrase their words, “why would we talk to a bunch of white people about our own problems?” I’ll admit I’m very in the dark about activism outside of big cities, but I do think there’s enough room to focus on multiple fronts. BLM has become a bigger focus nationally because cops are given power and a responsibility to protect us and they abuse it. With violent crime, people are at least held accountable, but the vast majority of times, cops don’t face any consequences. BLM is also a way for people from other racial groups to support Black communities, as I don’t think we’d be much help interfering in solely Black issues. As for “acting up”, I’ve watched countless videos of people of all races argue with the police, but the use of excessive force fall disproportionally on the Black community. Unless it’s someone like Candace Owens who is purposefully selling out her own race to be famous and make money, people making you feel less Black is uncalled for. Sorry you have to deal with that. I definitely do see colorism among many different racial communities, and it’s only reinforced by societal norms. It’s definitely true that people who grow up in poverty often don’t have time for politics so I appreciate you leaving your comment and engaging with me.

This subject makes me incredibly angry, so I'll try to keep it to a minimum. When. EVER. In the history of humanity, has the answer to any issue been to ignore it until it went away? The answer has always been: Attention, study, and careful consideration before action. Why is it, I could go into a store and cause a scene and throw things, yelling obscenities and verbally abusing the staff and I get called a "Karen" while someone with a darker skin tone is more likely to have violence called on them? Why? That is the question that so many don't seem to want to ask and it's infuriating. In Loudon County (not far from where I live) they say they aren't diverse so there's not a lot of racism - but WHY? Why aren't you diverse? Isn't THAT a product of racism? What, you think POC don't like your water, or something? Asking questions and seeking answers isn't a bad thing in any instance (well, I take that back, if you're 'just asking questions' for the sake of stirring the pot and with no actual intention of seeking answers *cough*Tucker*cough* then, you're a particularly ignorant and annoying part of the problem). "Why". "Why" is ours to ask and seeking answers is not furthering the problem, it's a step in the solving of it. As John Oliver correctly points out in this episode, "I have a dream" was a hope - a goal. Not a pronouncement of something that already existed. Ok. I'm done. Most likely preaching the choir, but it's extremely frustrating. Because statistics like this exist: "While Black students account for 21.8 percent of the Commonwealth [of Virginia's] student population, Black students represent 11.6 percent of Virginia’s gifted enrollment." WHY? WHY??? That is what CRT is and should be. The discovery of WHY! Else you get idiots like the woman shown being interviewed in the episode who just assume it's the fault of the POC. What, you (general 'you') think, honestly, that the reason black students are underrepresented in gifted programs is because they're not as intelligent? If you think that...then please, say it, so that you can be promptly disregarded. Ok. Actually done now. Writing all of that was at least cathartic, if useless.

That's a very interesting way of looking at it. I've been thinking that one side of this CRT argument feels like it has a vested interest in examining racial disparities, but it definitely is the case that there is a severe lack of intellectual curiosity there as well. There are definitely a lot of people out there sadly who believe in the idea of superior and inferior races. I definitely understand the frustration! Sometimes it can be good to vent about some of it. That's basically what I do with these reactions XD

So while that was completely not the point of the episode, as someone from Poland, I gotta comment on the Ukraine situation. Simply put: you’re wrong in thinking that this is routine and a question of narrative. Putin has never gathered this many troops, this close, with this many instances of provoking Ukrainian troops so that he has some semblance of an excuse to attack. In the so-called separatist states, shots have already been fired. I get not trusting politicians, but as someone who has to now worry daily about potential Third World War starting right across their border, hearing you say it’s somehow a fantasy conjured up to boost Biden’s ratings is peak America-is-center-of-the-world thinking. I hope Putin won’t attack and it will turn into a diplomatic resolution but living this near, within reach of Russian rockets… yeah.

I fully understand where you're coming from. I have nothing but compassion for the people in Ukraine right now and for people in surrounding areas. Not that it matters at the moment, but my original intention was actually trying to be less American-centric. I didn't want us adding to the conflict and causing bloodshed in Ukraine for our own political interests. We've manufactured so much fake outrage and threats over the years and have completely ravaged nations. With the additional context I have now from more trustworthy sources, I understand this is not one of those cases.
