I'm honored to introduce you to ARE – the Audio Reactive Engine ! 🎉

After nearly two years of work on audio reactivity, I believe I’ve managed to craft a fairly complete tool

ARE offers:

  • Automatic or manual drum detection (Drums) ;

  • Detection of the global dynamic of the signal (Global Dynamic) ;

  • Per-frequency dynamics detection (Reduced FFT) ;

  • Detection of low, mid, and high components of the audio signal (LMH Dynamics) ;

  • Manual BPM detection.

ARE is designed for optimization – parameters are available to reduce CPU consumption as much as possible while keeping output consistency. A graphical interface allows you to monitor audio signal processing and fine-tune the exposed parameters

Technical documentation is in progress, as well as two tutorials 🎓:

  • One focused on how to use ARE ;

  • One on how to make 3D elements audio-reactive.

If you encounter bugs or have suggestions, please share them – it’s super important for improving the tool! And if you use ARE in your projects, I’d love for you to mention it !😊

Great Tool!There is a great need for techniques to visualize audio waveforms! Any chance of getting an early access to a demo?

Nice can't wait for the tutorials as i would like to see your workflow and then apply a video 3d to your audio reactivity particles

can you provide any info at all? trying to understand how the parameters work. got an upcoming show

Leon Krykhtin

Still waiting how to use this tool... Nothing is moving or sounding at all from your patch.

Great start! way more control than the typ AudioAnalyzer. I hope to field test on a projection install this July 22-24.

Would love to see an tutorial. It looks super promising!! :)

Hey SARV, thanks for sharing this. I'm trying to use this with internal sound source but I'm getting no action on the ARE meters themselves (Global Dynamics/FFT). Source is selected, sample rate same as audio interface, buffer same as interface too. Any ideas?

Go to your ARE.tox parameter, select "audio and tools" tab then click on the "ON/OFF" button next to "Audio file (Off) / device (On)" Once you put in on "ON" mode Create a audio file in CHOP next to your ARE.tox Then you go to your movie file out TOP and drag and drop your CHOP on the line that say Audio CHOP in you Movie File out parameters

SARV

The patch is just the audio analysis, obviously it doesn't move. Did you see the last tutorial ?

Hey folks, i'm looking for help on latency. Does the ARE.tox add latency to the produced visual? Obviously this is important in a live arena. Thanks

SARV

If you setup the audio device in with the "minimum" buffer while keeping some viable data for the ARE to work it's perfect. The documentation I wrote speaks about latency and ARE. I use ARE in my live VJing and the only latency comes from devices and setup, ARE itself runs at 0.8ms average
