Well well well, we're finally here.

This map was suggested waaay back in August and for one reason or another it kept getting pushed back, but we came up with something and we're very happy with the result. Hopefully suitably cool and epic.

This map is over multiple floors, with a basement, exterior ground, interior ground, first floor and second floor. See the image below for how they connect up. We've also been thinking of making another sequel to this map for the subterranean levels leading down into the dungeons and the bedrock below. Let us know if that's something you'd like to see!

For those new around here, this is the sequel to our Shadow Fortress (which we'll be renaming to Shadow Fortress Bridge for clarity). We've tried to keep the style consistent with the original apart from the perspective change. The entrance at the top of the previous map leads into the bottom of this map, the castle proper. Just a reminder that we made a bunch of extra variations for the bridge here. There's a bridge version of the Astral and Sea Fort variations.

We decided to tie in all the chains and floating crystals from the last map and have them leading to a gigantic ensnared shadow colossus, kept captive in the old castle keep. Dagonzo has written up a new monster stat sheet for the shadow colossus. Although it's ensnared and cannot move it nonetheless projects its wrath across the map. All patrons can download that stat block here.

The variations are for the exterior portion, we've kept the interior rooms the same. We've also added a black and white version of the map in, just in case you want to go true-Shadowfell with its absence of any colour.

And most excitingly, to make your experience of assaulting the Shadow Fortress all the more epic, Michaël Ghelfi has written 10 rpg ambiences specifically for this map and has given us a selection to share with all our patrons. There's a post coming after this one where you can stream and download those!

My god, that underwater one is beautiful

Shane Williams

Pure shadow is where it's at.

Unwated Arcana

Hi! Sorry. Is it possible to get a few of these in colours that match the old bridge? Like the haunted one? Or get the Bridge map in the cloud fortress theme so we can match a few more of these up for consistent play? Not complaining! All you work is truly spectacular!

Unwated Arcana

The Sea fort is seeing use in my game tonight!

czepeku

The sea fort has an entrance to match it! It's in the updated 'winter fortress' pack. :)

czepeku

Some of these we tried to match with the bridge. The original, lava, rain, snow, etc. some we weren't able to match completely. We may go back and add a cloud version to the bridge but we're already working on the next release, so that might be a while.

The 1$ link doesnt work?

czepeku

We just noticed that there was a gridded/gridless mixup with one of the files so we've reuploaded the packs.

@cze and peku it's a kind of magic! Thanks for fixing.

$1 still doesn't work for me- {"errors":[{"code":902,"code_name":"AttachmentNotFound","detail":"Attachment with id 7252667 was not found.","id":"1935ca04-7fa4-442a-b7bf-eeca67ba60d5","status":"404","title":"Attachment was not found."}]}

Oh my god this is perfect for my game this weekend - my players are invading a Githyanki base in the astral!

Is it fixed now on this page? It won't work from your email because the email won't have updated after we changed the link here.

The sea fort will also see use in my own game tonight -- a huge thank you for all of the cool variations y'all give us!

Evan Clarke

This is amazing timing thank you! My party are just finishing their assault on the front gate (which is guarded by a titan-sized bone serpent) and I was kind of scratching my head about what to do for the interior. So thank you!

Chris Arce

This is perfect timing! My party's going on a Shadowfell adventure soon and I was planning to use the gate as part of the last boss.

Chris Skuller

Whoa! That Pure Shadow map is nuts!

Jason Sherman

Perfect timing for me as well! My group just entered the Shadowfell. I wanted to use the bridge, but it didn’t really fit without something good on the other side of it...now I probably have my next 2-3 sessions worked out!

Beautiful!❣️

Digital Game Machine

Would love to have the background for the original so I can expand the space around the castle a bit.

czepeku

There's no more background than what's on the map already. Do you have photoshop? If so you could expand the canvas and then go: edit > fill > content aware. You're likely to get a good approximation with that.

Kyle Braucher

Can someone me why there is a dragon head on Floor 1 and Floor 2 of the north castle spire? I can't rationalize it. Is it that the creature would bend its head down to look at the PCs on each level?

Kyle Braucher

... or is it a two headed dragon with heads over the top of each other... (?!?)

czepeku

Hi Kyle, there's a picture of the monster in the post and on the PDF, so you can see it better. The higher floor is just above the head and then you take the steps lower and get closer to it. There's versions without the monster if you prefer that.
