His worst album in my opinion (not sure if this is a hot take) but also probably the largest range in terms of quality. I forget “She” is on this album because it’s so much better than the other songs same with “nightmare” and Yonkers is just a classic for a different reason entirely lmaoo

This album was a huge part of me growing up, and part of that is recognizing this was written at a time when Tyler was still young and stupid just like I was. He has matured a lot since this album, and it would be worth checking out his progression

Bit disappointed but completely understand why you weren’t too big on She. It’s a fan favorite and one of his bigger songs so hopefully you come around to it eventually. And possibly once you’re caught up on his discography you can watch one of the many performances over the past few years where he’s thrown that record in. The 2024 ACL fest performance is one of my personal favorites.

Oh and it’s worth mentioning (I think you might be aware) but this album literally got him cancelled (banned from multiple countries and major protests at shows). Sometimes people revise history and say he “got away with saying this” when that really was not the case

There is a HUGE change from goblin to wolf, and then onward from wolf. Bastard and Wolf are the hardest to get through, Wolf and beyond are suuuuuuuper tame compared to these two which heavily rely on shock value

trust me vambie it goes from 0 to 100 in terms of quality with WOLF. its a much more fleshed out piece of work with a much better storyline (imo) and there isnt really any shocking lyrics, just the occasional slur 😭

Goblin, i love this, the teenage angst is just so palpable here, not as good as bastard but will always be special tbh. Sniping the TC reveal like 5 seconds in was fucking crazy though omg 😭. SLIGHTLY sad you skipped sandwiches but like, understandable lmao. ANYWAY, Jasper and Taco are killed on BSD of this album, which you skipped, it’s mostly a joke song so you didn’t really miss anything lol Golf Wang is Tyler’s (first) clothing brand, he just shouts it out for promo lol. And yeah, without spoiling anything, there’s a couple plot points that will be filled in by wolf, so def keep your ears out for things that puzzled you. Also the reason it was released out of order is (from what i know) is because wolf was originally set for a 2010 release, but his laptop crashed and he lost all the beats, so he decided to skip it and circle back (and once it came out in 2013 was wildly different from the few leaked tracks from og wolf we have now, you’re basically out of the edgy murder phase) also also the thebe mentioned here is earls real name, and when he says free earl he just means that he was at boarding school in samoa for his early lyrics, lol.

I think it's fine to not want to listen to songs about rape fantasies. By skipping the worst offenders while still doing most of the album she is meeting the people halfway who wanted her to react to the whole thing despite her repeated statements that certain content crosses a line for her.

I love Goblin but that might be because it was the first Tyler album I heard in high school so it's nostalgic for me. However I'm definitely excited for you to move on to Wolf. Thematically and sonically it's the best of the trilogy. Also I got nervous when you listed off the songs you skipped and you didn't say She, that was the main one I was thinking you were going to skip. And because I don't know if anyone else explained it, Tyler plays with the name Wolf Gang a lot. Wolf Gang -> Golf Wang by swapping the first letters. He does it a couple more times in Wolf so look out for that

Even tho he’s saying some outlandish stuff in this and Bastard, the production was always there, you could tell he was very talented as an artist early on just by him producing everything, yeah it’s not as polished or grandiose as the later projects (which he also produces, in fact there’s only 3 songs in his entire catalog where he has no production credits, and 97% of them he’s doing it by himself), it is still amazing, I’m glad you got through these two I promise from here on out it’s much more digestible lol

I'm very mixed on this reaction because it'd never be in my nature to skip any songs on a first listen of an album. But then again, I usually go into them completely blind and take them for what they are, great, terrible, or anything in between. But about the album itself, I had personally held off on Goblin for longer than I initially planned compared to my first listen of Tyler's other albums. I also just might grow indifferent to the troublesome or problematic lyrics he may have so I'm probably also not quite as sensitive to certain subjects his music may tackle because it's not something that hits home or resonates to me in particular. The product as a whole feels better to me, even with some of the songs I'm not as fond of. So idk if you'll ever go back to Bastard or Goblin, but if you do, I'd still recommend listening to those songs you may have skipped, just try not to take them quite a serious as their subject matter may suggest and take it for what it is. Or attempt to disassociate from the more uncomfortable moments. I hope my comment doesn't come across as harsh or insensitive to you and your stance on this, if it does I'd like to apologize about that as it wasn't my intent. If the song makes you feel something, I think that the song accomplished its goal even if you feel uncomfortable.

honestly all the songs we wanted you to skip were when tron cat came through and just was saying a whole bunch of fucked up shit i dint really think they rly added more to the story just that fucked up shot is going on but on bsd which is the track u skipped right before window it featured taco and jasper who arent rappers so they just made a real ignorant ass song and at the end ace is like i love u guys and then kills them.

I just found out that Golf Wang is just Wolf Gang with the first letters switched. and his music festival is called Flog Gnaw which is just golf wang backwards 🫠 feel so slow haha anyway, one album closer to flower boy!

Hey Vambie, I was wondering if you were gonna react to any mv's, live shows, or interviews from this era since it's the 1st time he saw any mainstream success. Winning a VMA for Yonkers, making his live TV debut performing Sandwitches on the Jimmy Fallon Show, and the 1st interview he did with Nardwuar are all important moments in Tyler lore. Also, Odd Future released a compilation album called OF Tape Vol 2 that bridges the artistic gap between Goblin and Wolf if you're interested in checking that out as well

hey vambie i just rewatched this vid and realised i meant to comment and forgot previously so i'm doing it now: idk if anyone has actually explained the acronym/naming thing but i couldn't find any comments clarifying this (maybe there are and i just missed em, sorry). basically the full name of the collective is "odd future wolf gang kill them all" and they were just called odd future to make it shorter, but they also got shortened to ofwgkta or just of. that's where wolf gang comes from (and to an extent wolf haley), and then tyler switches wolf gang to make golf wang (which he later uses as the name of his fashion brand, u can look it up it's still an ongoing thing - and then from that he branches out with golf le fleur which is a little more "luxurious") and then switches the name golf wang backwards to make camp flog gnaw which is the name of his yearly festival. idk if there's any deeper meaning besides the fact that he's always used part of the odd future name in other creative ventures and i guess he just likes wordplay 😄

Only now watching this and I think we owe you an apology for not warning you about She 😬 I must've missed when you mentioned that stalker themes are a particularly sensitive issue for you, sorry about that. It's one of the biggest songs on the album (the most streamed one on Spotify for example) and quite important to the narrative of the whole trilogy, and also one of the best musically, but lyrically... yeah. We should've warned you. But on the bright side, you've now definitely made it through the worst of Tyler both lyrically and musically with this album.

Dis why I didn’t want you listening to those folks who only want you to skip, Tyler's vision why not listen to Tron Cat?! Like u literally skipped some of the nostalgia points of the album but it’s okay I’ll stay tuned in for more. I just don’t agree with the skipping around that’s not fair tbh. That’s like skipping a horror film halfway through just cuz it’s shock value or gore within it, but it’s also your first time watching the film it just makes no sense to me you should 100% go back and listen to those tracks in a not so serious matter and just enjoy them for what they are.✍🏽💯

just a quick comment, its cool that your supporters wanna protect you from some of Tylers early content but just keep in mind that you're also skipping parts of the story. I know what line in Tron Cat they protected you from but you seem to take in the shock value pretty well so its nothing you haven't already heard. and in Sandwiches there's a part that is called back in Chromakopia that just feels like a huge full circle moment. Fish has Taylor Swift lyrics that's probably why they said skip that one too. but yeah, its like fast forwarding through a movie. seems counter productive to following a story line through his discography.

I'm sorry for just seeing this. Wolf will probably be next Sunday August 31st or Thursday September 4th depending on how my grandfather's surgery goes. It ended up getting rescheduled, so it's kinda thrown everything into a spiral. I'm planning on posting a member update with the upcoming drops tomorrow 🙌🏼

I would’ve personally recommended skipping Fish and I understand skipping Transylvania, but I don’t see why any of the others needed to get skipped. Based off whatever criteria led to those choices. “She” could have easily been skipped despite its popularity because of the content. I remember being astonished that girls loved that song despite repulsed by Tyler in general. Mostly because the loved the chorus and never caught the actual lyrics. I know there’s a tolerance limit to be aware of, at least until Flower Boy. But like I said on the Bastard video. If you made it through that, nothing else even comes close in terms of grossness. (This isn’t aimed directly at you. Just whatever group decision that led to that much getting skipped)
