Hey everyone, it's been a while! For the first time in a long time I've eroded my "Patreon buffer" of early videos a week early - on the plus side, this upcoming weekend is the first in a long time where I'm home with no obligations, so I'm hoping to rebuild that buffer and get the videos up a week early again. Hope you enjoy this one!

I’ve been wanting to ride this, noooooo

Nathan: Yes, that is a CRJ-900 (plane people tend to shorten it to just "CR9"). Delta's regional carriers do fly the CR7, but not to SBN. Miles: I expected nothing less than using an Amtrak credit card, well done.

Extended menu shot song. We are blessed today!

fun fact, the reason why that healthline bus smells fresh is because they do the bus swaps a 2-3 am.

I once was catching a train at the south bend Amtrak station …it ended up delayed until after midnight , when they kicked us out of the station and made us wait outside..,for 2 hours until it finally showed up around 2am, with zero updates from the Amtrak staff. Fun times at south bend. What memories. The second I saw the station it was as if I was there again.

Van Buren station is just a few blocks from my apt! For me the best part of the SSL is that it's basically direct access from Chicago to a national park. And it's so cool that they've been doing so much expansion/rehabilitation work in recent years. Not so long ago it used to take almost 2 hours just to get to Dune Park, and now that's been about cut in half by the double tracking and trackage enhancements.

To answer your question at the end: more is better! Please don’t cut too short 😀

For decades I’ve been driving the Skyway expressway looking at the South Shore tracks and wondering what it’s like to ride it. So finally next week I’m planning to take it and just in time there’s apparently a not-too-flattering trip report. I’m hoping my ride is a little bit better than yours, and it sucks that you had to bail at Van Buren cos I’m taking it to Millennium. But at least it’s reasonably cheap transportation.

PS: Regarding video length. When the video publishes for everyone, maybe see what metrics say? I love it all, but can see how it might underperform to a wider audience if it "doesn't get into it" right away? For me, it's what makes your videos special.

Impeccable Midwest not-a-diner vibes at Bill's Place

There are a couple of people on an aviation enthusiasts site I participate in who are from South Bend and think the airport there is the greatest thing ever. I went there recently on Breeze as a day trip from Dulles just to take pictures and say "This airport sucks." That's how obnoxious I find them. South Bend's marketing proposal trying to get government grants to bribe airlines to expand service or subsidize losses to keep flying there is kinda funny. It touts that they have a Whole Foods and all!! (feels desperately like the parody in South Park - look, we aren't such a crap stain after all!)

I popped when Nathan said it reminded him of NJ Transit because I was just thinking that to myself. The AC Line in particular, especially with regards to the delay. I also laughed really hard at "ooohhh, it's just like a theater ticket!"

Great video
