Here's the chapters that got published this week! Book 2 is now done on the 2nd tier too.

One thing that makes a story feel satisfying is the creation and subsequent fulfillment of promises. For example, in book 1, Mirian starts trying to stop the Akanan army in Torrviol, setting up the promise of a battle where she succeeds.

This is something I track in my notes, but I'd like to hear from you all to make sure I'm on the right track. What promises are you looking forward to the story fulfilling? (Another way of phrasing that is: what cool/satisfying moments are you looking forward to?). Let me know in the comments!

(Spoiler warning to anyone checking out the comments without having read the latest chapters since they might refer to something recent)

With the recent chapters (that I wont go into to not spoiler the other patreon tier): I really hope to see what plans the Omnian has for her and in what ways she will grow in accordance to his plans while keeping on working on this overarching Problem.

Pete Magnuson

Did you do something different with this chapter release on the backend? I got a push notification for 172 and 182 as a higher tier. Wonder if the notification funk for the lower tier is fixed, that would be cool for them

Clara

I'm really looking forward to/coping about her possibly figuring out how to contain the soul anchor from flying away, and then giving it to Jei. 🥺🥺🥺 :P

Mundane

I am a romantic sap at heart and I would love for our protagonist to find a true companion to keep her sane as she saves the world. One of the other choosen has to be cool, right?

Metal(Liz)ard

My personal moment is her solving teleportation it's been mentioned and built up so much that im really hyped for it! I'd also love for her to go to Jei's homecountry one day

wd40bomber7

I'm really looking forward to her mastering necromancy/soul magic and becoming the most powerful archmage the world has ever seen. I absolutely love her magic growth so much!

wd40bomber7

It's not clear to me that the Omnian has plans for her. The recent visions made it seem too alien to understand why humans won't band together to save the world.

wd40bomber7

Ehhh maybe, but she's always been so driven. Developing a romance extensively feels like it might conflict with her central goal. I feel like the user Clara below this thread has the right idea though. So maybe it'll happen.

Lena During

Chapter 178 made it pretty clear that the Omnian lead her to that place which helped strengthen her soul and teached her more about the mission she is in/gave her more perspective. But yes its too alien but yet she slowly starts to understand it more and more.

Gernot Bahle

I second that. Teleportation, portals, whatever :) though I would guess, from a story perspective, that will happen only when she needs to access the rest of the world. Still quite a few threads dangling in the desert, though

DrSubterfuge

Definitely looking forward to beating the memory curse and learning more about her childhood/who her parents are. That's number one on the list right now. Other stuff in no particular order: -Figuring out wth the Monument does -Confronting Ibrahim and the lich (especially the lich) -Resolving things with those other loopers Tryotin "beat" and maybe making friends -Finding more places like the one atop the spire and maybe figuring out if there's something even deeper going on than what we've already seen -Figuring out how to direct the events in Akana Praediar -Visiting Jei's homeland and learning from the locals -Figuring out how to teleport. (Less of a promise and more of a single off-hand comment that it should be theoretically possible if the caster had enough power. Stone moles provide an interesting test case for studying at least a short range blink. And we seem to be well on our way when it comes to power...) -Seeing how much she has changed by the end of this. Is she even going to retain her humanity? And lastly: the final loop. Building the Holy Pages feels like a smaller scale trial run for what the end of this might look like, and it's exciting. I don't know how you feel about comparisons to Mother of Learning, but even before the end of book 2 I felt like this had the potential to have a more satisfying conclusion than that series. Compared to MoL, the problems she faces are bigger in scale, much more layered, and fully integrated with the world. The fact that the apocalypse is primarily sustaining the narrative complexity (rather than the loop itself) means that way more can be cashed in on the conclusion. Hooray for good plotting!

wintersky

She sees a needle back in the Ominian, where before there were only wounds, after getting it out of Troytin, so if she does figure out an extraction it'll have to come from there.

James

I really like this comment. Hits on just about everything I'd like to see as well. I'd make a few additions in that it would be nice to have Mirian figure out more about Jai's tradition of crystallography. Also, I think some investigation into the mechanics of the time loop are warranted if only to know whether or not she needs to do a 'final loop' at all. As far as I know, we're not quite clear if she can just continue on from a loop that ends up the right way. I think it's a big difference, narratively speaking.

DrSubterfuge

Crystallography is definitely one of the things I'd like to see her learn more about. The lost tech behind the construct Jei has is also something I'd like to see explored. As for "final loop", that probably wasn't the best way for me to phrase it. One way or another, there's going to be a timeline that sticks, when she's playing for keeps. That's what I was referring to.

Mundane

Does not specifically need to be a romantic relationship. Just someone who can share the burden of everything. Like I would love to get a pov from another looper who is also not crazy and who gave up years ago on trying to do anything only to get their hope rekindled.

I've enjoyed speculating about possible things that might happen with my family for months, so in a random order: - Exploration, originally this idea was "could Miran travel to the moon before it fell", but I will admit there are more realistic places to explore before we get there. Things like the depths of the oceans or other continents are likely more reasonable at first. Then you get to more absurd places I'd enjoy seeing Miran explore like space, the moon, or even the 4th dimension (Assuming there's stuff to explore there). The Labyrinth also goes on this list I guess, especially since nobody alive seems to know how many level deep there are in total. - On the topic of traveling to space I think it might be interesting to see what happens if Mirian survives the end of the world (And I can't really imagine anywhere on the planet is safe). I imagine either she gets dragged back in time anyways, or she actually get more time. I'm not expecting a crazy amount of time (If any), I figure the destruction of the entire world causes massive issues with finding food, water, etc. and that would eventually kill her anyway. Maybe she'll accidentally accomplish this as she grows more durable who knows. - 4th Dimension is also something I'm quite interested in. Considering that something as small as a stone mole can hop short distances, I imagine Mirian will get that eventually. But I'd love to see other uses for the 4th dimension, like a defensive spell that slightly shifts her outside of the world so she's immune to conventional attacks. Or using the 4th dimension to cast spells at incredible distances. Really just magical advancement in general is really interesting to read about. If I remember any of the other crazy ideas I had I'll put them as replies to this comment.

Dylan

Looking forward to more of her emotional journey. I hope she finds a way to ground herself before going full villain (probably wouldn’t read that, just my preference), but the exploration of what a time loop would do to a person is really interesting. Looking forward to her meeting and figuring out more travelers and secrets

Dylan

Oh and lower depths underground :D honestly looking forward to a ton of stuff: other prophets, her memories, the necromancer, what’s up with the gods, etc. more powah!

CherMi

Looking forward to deeper Labyrinth layers and what's in there. If they're like a testing facility for magics, Mirian would have to learn a lot and I'm here for it. Last chapter mentioned a Saint coming to the world. Looking forward to maybe a meeting with them or someone easier to talk to than elder gods. Also hoping for Mirian's promotion from prophet to saint in the end of loops.

orinatic

I'm looking forward to Mirian eventually gaining some sort of companionship on her journey. Whether that's another time traveller that isn't actively hostile, or she figures out how to repurpose/reassign a feather, it would be nice to have another character that changes across the loops

Andrei

The ring!

Lukas

I feel like all the different places the Ominian showed her hold similar promise to the endilice. I feel they are also connected to the different energy glyphs she found in the simulation room. What happens if she absorbs all the different base energy forms into her soul? Will she transform? Is the last glyph time? Can she learn to master it herself? Create her own temporal anchor eventually? So much to see!

Cameron Earl

First some things that confuse me as to why they haven’t been addressed or mentioned yet. An in-text explanation would maybe be good. - The labyrinth is said to be really deep, but there have been no in-text indications that she has found a path to go deeper. Do all of them connect? Is it a faster way to travel throughout the world, assuming one can survive? If she does know how to go deeper, why hasn’t she tried it near the end of a loop yet? Why hasn’t she prioritized this seeming as how useful the first vault was? Why hasn’t she tried to find more entrances, other than the one she has been in and the myrvite preserve one she deemed unimportant to her? - There was the one room with the glyphs that she could increase or decrease, but she never tried the last because she didn’t recognize the rune? It seems like messing with it would be an ideal way to learn about the rune and increase her knowledge and ability immensely. Yet she never tried it, then or later, which confuses me. - Similarly, didn’t the room clarify pretty clearly that excess mana was the cause of the eruptions? I’m not sure why she isn’t pursuing that as a focus of research. Other things I’m looking forward to: - learning more about the Torrviol monument, and others - finding the tomb - improving artifice with Akanan expertise, soul magic from Tlahuaxans, crystals from Zhiguans - finding other artifacts of the prophets, stolen, owned by the other church, or made by unrecognized prophets - discovering more legends about unrecognized prophets from different cultures - what’s the deal with elder reliquaries not being used for all types of magic? Will she learn fundamental truths by studying with the Tlahuaxans? Will she collect and master different types? - the ring (very clever way of explaining why she hasn’t returned to that, btw) - infiltrating the DPS and learning their secrets, such as who the hostage is - learning truths from other religions - what exactly did meditating at the spire do? I feel like this will be explored more as she travels. - how long do things last now if she’s prevents the monument from exploding? - I’d love to see her get better at communicating with the Ominian as she grows. Does visiting the places help? - the more overt ones - solving the leyline problems, confronting Persama, stopping the war, meeting with other loopers, and visiting significant places This story is incredible, and I think your attention to this promises/foreshadowing concept is a major reason why. Absolutely brilliant writing, thank you!

Clara

But when she took the needle out of him, it essentially slipped out of her grip as it shot away. If she can find a way to hold onto it tighter, she might be able to keep it from escaping to the Ominian

The Ox

I would love to meet Atroxcidi. If anything, he's a tremendous source of information regarding soul magic/necromancy if she can winkle it out of him (them?) It would be nice to meet a bad guy who's a bit less of a mustache twirler, which all of the Akanan and Baracuel elites have been for the most part, like Troytin, Westerun, and Specter. I'd love a slightly more nuanced and morally grey evil, although maybe a necromancer is unlikely for that?

M Ln

1. The chapters recently have been lots of setup and information gathering, it feels like we are finally seeing the bigger picture so that is cool. 2. Can’t wait to see the implications of the soul strengthening/whatever happened up north. 3. Where are the other loopers? Lots of information about Ibrahim but I haven’t noticed any other irregularities, so if there are other loopers some subtle foreshadowing would be nice (maybe there is and I missed it) 4. I am exited for the possibility of longer loops. So I’m hoping that as she figures out what is destabilizing the ley lines the loops will gradually get longer and allow for bigger and bigger changes.

DrSubterfuge

I have to disagree about Westerun being a mustache twirler. He's paranoid and murderous but he seems to genuinely believe he's doing something for the greater good.

Something I kinda wanna see although I don’t really think it’ll happen. is I’d like to see Mirian take Troytin’s “Position” but for another looper. Mirian secretly spies on a another looper, until she knows their pattern well enough to decisively defeat them, but then something goes wrong or she miscalculates and they get away now knowing of her existence. Basically, just a very similar situation to the one Mirian and Troytin had, but Mirian is in a more similar situation to Troytin, with this new looper. Or just a situation where she is interacting with another looper where she has the advantage in a similar way that Troytin had. maybe a situation where somebody else that was tormented by Troytin but was able to evade him, finds out about Mirian and think she’s just like him. and thus wants to oppose her. Personally, I kinda don’t want Mirian to try befriend another looper, unless it’s one she makes. I just want her to divide and conquer. And having multiple loopers going against her, because they think she’s evil? Or wrong? or some other reason. Just sounds fun. I am kinda interested in her making alliances with other loopers but not permanent ones, I want to see her stab them in the back in the end. or vice versa Granted, I’m one of those readers that enjoys a psychopathic lead. Sooo… take what I say with a grain of salt. Also, really wanna see jei become a looper as well, she’s probably my favorite character besides the main character. I’d also really like to see someone Mirian can finally, and satisfyingly, confide in. Kind of like the scene re-zero, where Subaru confides to the witch of greed. I also still kinda wanna see more/learn more about Spectre. i’m still feeling a little unsatisfied with her story I guess? I don’t know. I feel like there’s something more too her that we’ve not seen, but I’m not sure if there’s actually something there. I’m not really sure if it fits Mirian, but I want to see her use some full-blown necromancy. like raising the dead, having an army of undead or something. Or maybe not an army of undead, but an army of automatons, that she made. I’m Imagining something like the vex from destiny, mixed with victor’s puppets from arcane season 2. or just straight up the clockwork soldiers from dishonor 2. I wonder if it would be interesting to have Mirian make Lily a looper, but then she becomes mentally unstable? Evil? or insane? And then eventually, Miriam has to “put down” Lilly because she just doesn’t have the mental fortitude for the loop. I don’t imagine it would be very hard for Miriam to physically/magically overpower Lilly and remove the needle from her soul, but it would probably be emotionally painful. Something I think about when I watch or read a Time loop story, is by the end of it the main character often times sees people, still as people. But especially with how long Mirian has been in the loop, i’m not sure if I would still see people as people at that point. they would just be tools, objects, animals, pets. And as far as my understanding goes a time loop where events happen the same way every time, assuming you don’t interfere. Doesn’t that basically disprove free will? That Your actions were determined years, decades, centuries before? And now that you’re a looper. Does that mean you have free will now? You certainly have “more” free will than the regular people. In this scenario, aren’t you the queen while everybody else are the ants? Wouldn’t you really only see other loopers as real people? And now If you see yourself as now truly having free will. Would you ever want to leave? and become like everybody else, no longer having control over your “destiny”? I don’t know, it’s just something I think about when I watch or read a time loop story. Sorry for anybody who ended up reading my ramblings I didn’t intend for it to be this long, and scatterbrained.
