Skipping the fun tangent this week to instead do a check in on the story. I like to hear from you all about your thoughts, as it's super helpful in making sure I'm hitting the right notes as I write. (I continue not to respond to most comments, but I do read them and appreciate them!) There's still a ways to go until the end of book 4, but I want to see how it's feeling right now.

  1. How is the pacing feeling? Too fast? Too slow?

  2. What are you looking forward to? Is there anything you want to see less of? Where do you think the story is going?

  3. Mirian's journey to the end-point isn't exactly linear, but does the story feel too unfocused, or is it clear what goals Mirian is trying to achieve?

There’s a big spread of opinions below. I find myself nodding along with almost all of them, even though some of them are contradictory. You’ve attracted a lot of thoughtful readers! I definitely agree that I am enjoying the story a lot, and I would like to say thank you for writing it. The pacing I have few comments on, besides agreeing that doing too many Myr measurements feels performative. Give us feats, give us aura, but please don’t give us solid numbers too often. I love to see other subtle ways in which Mirian’s increased strength manifests. One of my favourite ways you’ve done this is by showing how Mirian fights - what tools she has access to, how many adversaries she can take on, for how long she can fight, etc. That said, I also love the stuff outside combat. Things like building near impossible contraptions like the regulator, or having insights others find hard to follow, or devising new spells doing whacky new things. I agree that one of the central themes of the story has been Mirian distancing herself from her humanity through the isolating effect of the loops (as well as simply not having to engage as much socially to get what she wants because of her power). I also think that one of the strong points of the story has been interrogating worldviews. I deeply appreciate that no single side has had all the answers, that Mirian still has a lot to learn in many ways (and maybe always will), and that having ‘all’ the answers might be unattainable with one perspective (even the Ominian struggles!) I would like the exploration of these themes to continue in as nuanced a way as you have done so far (or even more so!). In terms of where the story’s going, I do think that when the loops are over, all the prophets will be left with what they have sought and, depending on the prophet, potentially a lot of regret. Mirian may be bad at manipulating nations, but it seems more and more likely she will be able to save the world from destruction - and perhaps herself from lack of agency and letting her circumstances define her. Attaining the first goal seems more certain; it’s the second one where I perceive the highest personal stakes - essentially, it would decide whether Mirian will want to live in the world she has saved. I like her, so as a reader I find it important she succeeds and has a happy resolution. In terms of things I would like to see more of, I had a whole paragraph written out but decided not to post it. It seems to me what we are shown reflects Mirian’s focus, and I’d rather that was guided by what you have in mind for the character than what I want to see.

I find the Pacing fine for the most part. Though I do think one thing that wasn't done so well was the sudden 2 chapter battle Scene in Torrviol. I think that was a bit too long considering the actual mystery and plans right now are threefold: 1) reasearch on both reaching the moon and Leyline regulator construction. 2) Figuring out how to deal with Scebur and get closer to working together with ALL the Prophets (I still think finally revealing Relics and Relicarium is absolute Key for that) And lastly 3) Delving the Labyrinth for more Relicarium and other useful tech/on the off chance that the master controls actually exist... And to interrupt that with this kind battle for basically an entire Weeks worth of chapters... it feels too long I guess? Like I would have much preffered we get a long and detailed showing of a battle that Mirian and the Other FRIENDLY Prophets CHOSE to wage... Like maybe when they end up cornering Scebur and he then mobilizes Akanan forces... This way it feels a bit hard to be too engaged to this "meaningless" battle in grander Scheme off things which at best only give Scebur the "Fuck me Mirian is unbeatable" Info and at worst reveal her Soulbound relics and current magical limits ect... But that might also in part be because a) I'm someone who is much more a sucker for plot progression and worldbuilding than the straight up Battle and "pure power progression" like its fun to read about Magic development and ascensions and how high her Myr has climbed but it doesn't really interest me personally all that much if this new Myr Number now means she can defeat 8 or 12 Elite squads/companies of enemy soldiers... Also the fact that I just caught up doesn't help for sure lol... I think thats a big part why I feel like the last two chappys had slight pacing issues... I read the entire Moon mystery and planning and attempts in one sitting... And then you come and "interrupt it and force me to wait" with a "boring battle" XDDD Overall loving the story.

Cannot agree enough with the bullet pointy nature of the story recently. I think some comments here touched on it, and I just read the entire story as a new reader in the span of about a week. It was a very noticeable shift for me.
