Thats really a fun tangent. There were also laws about "striking the ground/stone with the sword". Now some people have this idea that people treated swords as priceless artifacts, or treasured weapons. In some way its true, but clearly this happened enough for it to be codified and put as a law. Why would they do something that would clearly damage the sword? Intimidation. Threatening someone by striking the sword and making sparks is basically the equivalent of waving around your gun carelessly. Its also fun to see the different ways people escalated and/or prevent fights, with swords as a tool.
