I'm trying to figure out if I like the colored word balloons, or if they're just unnecessary.

I think the colored word bubbles if given a more subtle color then they would help keep each piece of dialog identifiable to each character while at the same time not being noticable to be mentally screaming out who it is.

I for one like the coloured balloons. They draw attention and give context and flavour. A dash of sriracha if you catch my drift! Beautiful depiction of Pepper, great colour as always

I know this is such a funny detail to focus on, but I’ve always loved how you draw the little strap and button/buttonhole on the back of pants for the tail. It just makes so much sense and I love that you thought of that!

Something about the coloring struck me as being different/more intense before I even realized the balloons were colored differently. Did you try something else new or is it just me? For the record like the colored balloons. Maybe a touch lighter would be better?

Also re word balloons: I don’t know about in general, but I like the colored, slightly transparent ones here. They blend better with the scene, whereas I feel conventional solid white ones would stick out too much. Don’t know if I’m explaining this too well but that’s my two cents. And Pepper’s terrific to see as always!

Those buttons existed on Jay's anthro's pants for ages due to the need of a hole for the tail. The fabric ends below the tail and then theres a button above the tail to fixate the pants.
