Don't younknowy? In Sovyiet Rossiya, chess plays YOU! (𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 Yakov Smirnoff) // I watched the Apple River footage, a few different analysts, as well as significant portions of the trial. There was certainly no shortage of jackassery on all sides, but the entire tragedy was completely avoidable. I'm still baffled by it. The verdict was just, don't get me wrong, but I thought Miu's defense was paltry. Bruce Rivers brought forth a few insights that Miu's lawyers probably should have raised at trial, but whatever their reasoning, they didn't. The Miu case at first blush seems to share a handful of similarities with the 2015 death of Peter Kelly, a 34yo father of five, who was stabbed to death while on a camping trip on a Wisconsin river. One key difference, is that Kelly appears to have been responsible for his own death. The teen who stabbed him was acquitted, the jury arriving at a finding of self-defense after 19h of deliberation. Kelly seemed to have been spoiling for confrontation, having escalated the situation at every turn. Curiously, Kelly was widely characterized as a superlative father and husband, but from what I could gather, the man was hardly ever home if he could help it. It's an older case, but I think the channel would dig your perspective on the Kelly case. Thanks for another groovy post!

So glad you didn't jump on the "self defense" bandwagon. The rush is exactly why I think he's guilty, too. He stabs 5 unarmed people while smirking and tries to sneak off and he's innocent? I'd love for you to do the interrogation.

Hello Scott! the stabbing happened in Apple river, WI...just 2 hours north from me! so awesome you did a story close to me, im in La crosse, WI. There might be couple murder stories that happened in my county (la crosse , WI county). They may interest you. Although years old, i know one of them made national news. Kendhammer case and Eric Koula..which both ironically happened in West Salem, WI years apart. been listening to your show since the shutdown!
