Writing Seclusion Announcement. (Patreon)

Hey gang.

I've made the decision to pause my Patreon for February.

The Ultom mega arc has been a massive undertaking. There are so many parallel plot treads, overarching plot points, and a huge ensemble of characters with their own schemes and motivations. I'm having a lot of fun putting together all these little puzzle pieces. I'm also arriving at moments that I plotted out years ago, which is rewarding in its own way.

On the other hand, there has been a linear increase in time commitment and mental energy drain with the increase in complexity. I've lost count of how many times I've plotted up some sections only to throw it out the window the next week. Starting a story arc is easy; wrapping it up is not (at least not in a satisfying way).

As such, I'm pausing the scheduled releases for February. I want to tinker with the story for a bit without weekly releases demanding my attention. I need to write out some important scenes/chapters further down the road, so that I for certain know what Zac is running toward. This announcement affects all Patreon tiers and RoyalRoad.

Since I'm not releasing chapters, I will naturally pause the charges on the 31st. I will also release a chapter on February 1st to make up for the one I missed a few weeks back.

I'm sorry about the inconvenience, and thank you all for your patience.

tl;dr: Entering secluded meditation for February. 2 more chapters, then back March 1st.

Honestly surprised this hasn't happened already but better late than never. Guess I'll knock out the planned binge of the whole series I had planned during his summer break. Though a new question arises, will TFD still take his summer break or no? Will he only take a week or 2 instead? I need the answers.

You've put out 16 books in 5 years. If you want to take a month to line up the climax of some important arcs, I'd say that's more than reasonable. Take all the time you need. You've done an absolutely insane amount of work in that little time and is gremlins addicted to it often don't give you the credit you deserve for this insane schedule you've kept up. Thanks man

I think this makes a lot of sense. While I enjoy episodic releases it does impact the structure of the narrative if you don't allow yourself breaks to plan further ahead or work it into your existing workflow. With the latter it may just be too much to do at once so you compromise with the former. I appreciate that you are able to pause a revenue source to ensure quality in the final product.

Great idea Ultom has become far to all encompassing and complex, Im sure sometimes everyone is lost... so go on you take the time and sort out the coherence and end point...and please fix the character flaw... still way too far in the story for zac to not have a personal goal the doesnt include his family, or hiding earth... full time he evolves past that... matter of fact he shouldn't reach monarchy without know what he is fighting for, personally... empire and family aside what are his personal goals aside from taking care of everyone else....right or wrong he need to pick a side.even if everyone else be damned..

Ehh, I'd say the biggest issue is that Ultom is THE plot. It's been the overarching plot for years now and its finally coming to a head. TFD basically needs to plan out what he wants to happen from here. Does he want zac to become one of the flamebearers chosen? What is Laondios' insane endgame? The reactions of the supremacies and multiverse as a whole when the pillar of Man returns with Laondio? And then a bigger question of where to go from here. A little rest arc for Zac and Co is definitely needed but then what? Setting up where his empire is sent, if he joins a larger faction, etc etc. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if we just get a month or 2 of laid-back mini arcs. Zac and Co resting and consolidating their gains as well as the empires new home sector and population gains. It would give TFD plenty of time to storm the next steps of Zacs journey without the possibility of a major fuck up that needs retconning, especially since it will be taking him into the Eternal storm to fulfill his mother's mission.

Somewhere I heard or read, when creating a story you start with title, beginning and end and, all the bits in the middle are the fiddlely bits. That Not actually true now is it! Health is important aspect of anyone’s life and to maintain the focus you have had over the 15+ books at no less than hundred chapter is huge undertaking and I appreciate your shear determination to continue on. Many story in this Genre are only about twenty chapter and the chapter are nowhere as long. I can under stand this break, to re-energise get back on track keep the ship moving in the right direction make sure all the little piece come together. It’s long overdue so be sure we will all be right here waiting patiently for epic finish to a classic story. Thank You 😊 🤫🙏

Omg how will I handle one month pause I don’t know. However ultom arc became so huge that it is hard to handle so much information. I think S Defier said it is time to put some puzzles together. I really enjoy this arc and I am looking forward to new adventures in ultom and how supremacies and sealbearers will interact
