I thought the best way to explain how Annie got the wrong partner would be something simple.  Annie and Tabitha didn't know it exactly, but they were once in the same room with the other girls they'll have to fight (because every comic needs a tournament arc).  You can see all of them last shown on page 99.

I wasn't sure if I should include Tabitha's comments here at the end because I'm adding in just a little of her narrative, but thought it added a little drama to the change of events.

The next page is a montage of Thomas noticing things being wrong, and then the experiment.  It might be one page or two.
