Hi guys! When posting this, the best quality available is 360p, but if you wait a while it should process to offer full HD soon! :) I wanted to post this now though as to not miss out on Buffy Fridays!

LOVED the moral that Buffy comes to in this one.  Very tough situation and a lot of progression for the character.  All the stuff between Giles and her is golden IMO!

Funny that you brought up the Giles Doctor Who connection given that Giles' actor did appear in an episode of Doctor Who.

Great reaction. I'm really loving your Buffy reactions. When you get to the end of season 3, you should also consider reacting to Angel. It's a spin off from buffy but it takes place parallel to buffy from season 4 onwards. :)

I think a lot of Season 1 usually gets dismissed as campy fun, so we don't tend to think of episodes as seriously as you are right now. But I agree. This was a super important episode for Buffy. Imagine being 16 years old and being responsible for holding back the forces of evil while still having to go to school... You really made me laugh with your comments about Owen's hugeness. I love these reactions. I will try to follow any technical approach you take... I really enjoy your reactions so much. I'm loving what you're doing right now. And my favourite character, as always, is Buffy.

Episode comment: I don't love this episode, but your enthusiasm was so contaigious that I enjoyed it much more than usual! TBH I think you put your finger on the main problem: Owen is too tall! He is supposed to be the dark emo poetry guy at school, but they cast a tall blonde handsome jock. Why DIDN'T the vampire's ring go poof????? I have never questioned it before but now it will keep me up at night. I guess the Order of Aurelius has special non-poofing rings. Giles is my favorite this episode, for the kindness and understanding he shows Buffy during their last conversation. (Dishonorable Mention to Xander for trying to move the mirror and catch a glimpse of Buffy changing.)

I've enjoyed S1 so much more since I started watching reactors. It turns out it's just as worthy of deep thematic analysis as the other seasons. And there's something so charming about their early high school hijinks.

Enjoyed the show and your commentary and speculations, as always! I answer your speculations out loud to my screen, but of course, I can't answer you in the comments because of spoilers. Not too much to comment on this particular episode, as you picked up on the serious takeaway for Buffy and how much being a Slayer doesn't allow for a normal life. Cordelia is actually one of my favorite characters, along with Willow and others which have not yet appeared and so will not be named. I can't say more about Cordelia and her future or whether or not she even *has* a future, as I don't want to spoil your fun and surprise. Xander's actor Nicholas is 5'11", so yes, Owen was quite tall! In reference to your comment, "Video game movies tend to be bad," have you seen Free Guy? I think it's on HBO streaming right now, and I definitely recommend it! The actor who plays Owen is only 6'2", so he's not that tall. (At least in my eyes. My experience involves lots of people taller than that, so my perspective is probably skewed.) Owen and Giles are my favorites in this episode. They're both just so much fun during it.

Yeah this is a good episode, that was really cool that you predicted Owen coming along with the gang. It’s so much fun watching these with you, it’s like getting to experience it for the first time all over again! Any chance you can turn off the transparency on the video? The poster of Buffy is bleeding through on to the video which makes it hard to see (and Buffy is quite a dark TV show generally.) That being said, I mostly just listen because I know the TV show well enough to know what’s happening visually so it doesn’t really bother me that much.
