Hi guys! So sorry about missing last week. I completely ran out of time and wasn't able to make Buffy Fridays.  BUT we are back today with the start of Season 2! This one feels like a really good round-up of how last season ended!

I hope I have it right about what actually was going on with Buffy in this one! If not, please do correct me!

Gonna be honest, i don't like a lot of first season episodes. But I also don't begrudge the series that, season openers are hard. You have to clean up from last season and setup the new... it's not an easy task. This one is decent, and ithighlights a very key part of Buffys Character: When she is stressed, she tends to shut down. She pulls up all her walls, spikes the fences with barbed wire and makes a little hedgehog ball in the middle. She becomes professional, but also cold and hurtful, because she has a hard time letting people in. The weight of the world rests on her shoulders, and no one can really take that away, and she has a really hard time trusting that there is someone she can actually confide in.

I would say Merrick's death goes into the so-bad-it's-good territory though, it's my standout memory from watching the film once XD

I never noticed the apple and chocolate swap in the dream before. Wow, I'm so glad to watch it with you because I am still noticing little details of this show even though I've seen it over and over again. Wow. Can't thank you enough. :)

It's intended to be swearing because he's mimicking spike, who is flicking the Vs to swear in the clip he's referring to. But it was only a joke pal, I didn't literally think Veggie was swearing at the audience with ill intent lol

Just to add, I’m a diehard Buffy defender and I don’t think this was strictly her fault!! The way she should do her job as slayer is alone (hence secrecy) but having support is part of her strength. It’s a theme that continues throughout the show. This season is amazing and has some very iconic episodes coming up!! Not to mention a number of great one liners in this episode alone lol

The boy’s name is Colin. But they always just call him “the anointed one”. The Buffy movie is bad…but I think you should watch it because I still love it. The dialogue is good at least. Buffy doesn’t really have any bad episodes in my view but this one is not one of my favourites. Buffy was a bit of a “bitca” and the line at the end is brilliant “I hate that girl!”. 6.2/10

I think you should watch the movie as soon as possible. You got a good taste of what she comes to be, but knowing what 90's movie buffy was comopared to the tv show will be neat. i don't think theres more than a few small cross over matters so now or after doesn't REALLY matter. You heard she came from the previous school and was a mischievous student. The movie basically introduces you to the thought of a vampire slayer. lookin forward to it :) HOLY CRAP. around 44:40 buffy shove a cross onto the vamps head. she's using the cruciatous curse on the vampire wtfff.

Personally, the movie is a chapter I'd rather forget. But it's campy fun if you're up for it. I love this episode. I think you'll find that a lot of seasons end on things that need to be resolved and so the next seasons usually open with a sort of resolution episode... And this one started that trend. I didn't appreciate Xander's attitude in this one. I'm a bit defensive of Buffy in that way. He did come up trumps in the end... but he also did react very meanly towards Buffy when she was caught unawares. "You could have stopped this if you'd been here." Is she always supposed to be everywhere?

I wrote this comment days ago and forgot to post it XD Oh well, better late than never. I love this episode. Such an interesting opener to focus on Buffy's trauma from the last season. I like how you said it felt like a "coda" to S1. And I really like getting to see Buffy, our Hero, make a whole lot of mistakes.... and that's OK. Her friends still love her. That's so reassuring. The Buffy movie..... well, yes, you should watch it, possibly as some sort of rite of passage or hazing ritual. It's sort of required reading for the Buffy canon. If you're going to watch the whole show, you gotta do the movie too. (Whenver you want to; there are no spoilers.) Now this is just my opinion, and your experience will be different, but it's so bad. It's hard to describe how bad it is. It's a tonal nightmare. It teeters on the edge of so-bad-its-good but NEVER GETS THERE. It honestly makes me angry because there is so much wasted potential in there! You can watch the intro; it's fun to see which episodes all the little clips come from. But try not to read the credits that show at the bottom of the screen after the intro. Eventually they get spoilery for characters we might not have seen in a while.
