Status update on this definitely not bugged to hell website (Patreon)

TL;DR:

  • New discord channels for chapter releases.

  • Billing will not be repaused for December, to try and avoid further problems.

So, pausing billing has gone even worse than expected. I have heard back from Patreon and things have been escalated to the product support team. I'm sure that's going to go great and fix everything.

During what I'm certain will be the short wait for them to fix the problems that have gone unaddressed for multiple years, we'll have to do what workarounds we can. We won't be able to deal with every issue, sadly, but there are some steps that we can and have been taking.

On the discord, there are new dedicated channels for chapter releases. They are read-only and will have the PDF chapters released at the appropriate tiers, alongside the Patreon version. You will need to link your Patreon and discord accounts to access your role, giving you access to the appropriate channels. Links above.

As pausing billing has to be done month by month, I've decided against repausing it after the first pause ends, on or around December 2nd, depending on time zone. Hopefully, we can then start working through the various issues that people have had, and get back to the inadequate normal we've come to expect from Patreon.

Just don't pause the billing when you go on break. You announce it with enough warning and we can all easily unsubscribe should we decide.

I personally wonder if all the pausing is necessary. Back in may or June one of my authors straight up disappeared from the world until August with 0 explanations. Not as successful as you for sure. There was hot debate as to whether to cancel plans. Some of the readers in the community cited what a hard time the author was having personally, and a lot of the readers chose to stick it out based on the fact that this is patreon, we are patrons. You have given me many hours of enjoyment, I’ve relistened to your series multiple times at this point. I’m paying for you to be able to have the creative room to write me freaking books at, frankly, a ridiculous pace (tho there are those that are even more ridiculous, I’m looking at you pirateaba, slow down before you kill yourself you beautiful maniac). Your regular money flow shouldn’t stop because you take breaks. That’s not the way it should work anywhere, but especially not for artists. Can you just let people know when your breaks are, and they can decide whether to take the time cancel for that time period, and anyone else who thinks you’re doing good work AND deserve to be there for your mother can just pony up for one or 2 months cause we can afford it? In the words of a deeply stupid child: Shut up and take my money.

I vote to just not pause things, it causes problems and the primary point of anyone here should be to support your ability to create, not think of this as paying for a product/service directly that requires on time steady deliveries

I agree, but I'm also only okay with paying for whatever because he lets us know ahead of time, so I always know what I am paying for, my biggest thing is, because he lets us know, instead of him pausing everyone, people who don't think it's worth it can stop their own for a month, leave it up to each individual to decide what to do

This is why I think, just keep giving notice and let each person decide what they want to do on their own, that way you don't have to spend time you should be focusing on family worrying about patreon, and users can choose not to pay for months they don't want to

If i remember correctly, you tried at least once reduced schedule, 1 chapter per week - and based on comments it seemed like it was accepted well? Why not do that in future when you need breaks and not mess with canceling subscriptions? You can extend that week or two beyond your break to cover for the chapters published during break. I feel that on average your readers are loyal and this would probably be least painful for all?

Biscuit! All of this is why my favorite way to support creators on Patreon was the simple per-posted-content. I’m really not happy that they’ve done away with that. It’s not for everyone, but for creators who were regular it worked well - if they needed a break, or ran into problems there was never an issue. Expectations and emotions were handled simply.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for both your work/stories, they bring a smile to me every time, and your communication. It is for these reasons that when I had to unsubscribe from most of the authors I followed/supported due to personal financial reasons, the remaining limited budget I have for Patreon went to you. Patreon support is absolutely worthless. Sorry you have to go through this, Shirt. I've been locked out of content since the 19th, so with the pause over, I just cancelled my membership and bought a new one. I've been dying for new chapters, so it's absolutely worth it. Support messaged me back after a few days just to say there's a glitch and they have no idea how to fix it.

FWIW i missed ALL the posts and lost dicord access in early Nov when the first pause happened. just canceled and resubbed to get access back.
