There’s always a choice, but there’s not always a right choice or a good choice. Even with all the power in the cosmos, sometimes there are only bad, worse, and catastrophic choices, and all we can do is make the choice that will help as many and harm as few as we can make possible. It reminds me of a strong anime debate; would you rather be like Itachi, sacrificing your own for the world’s sake, or be like Eren, sacrificing the world for the sake of your own?

Justin Butler

But but time manipulation. But but who's going to die. Oh no it's Moppet. Oh no no no no no no no no

Doswyn

Welcome back! Thanks for the chapter!

Izraifel

Listen listen LISTEN. You cannot be hinting at an event that is so desperate that Jason would willingly break the laws of the universe to reverse it. Not when he and Zara are figuring this out. Nope nope nope. Not accepting it. Also, tyftc....

Jamie Jefferson

I cannot wait 2 days for this next chapter holy moly

Samuel Strode

Jason’s family dies?

Dylan Alexander

He’s still going to do it, only so this story can then add time loop onto it.

james foster

Sooo, Dawn? or the World Phoenix herself?

Nathan Emerson

Of course the easiest solution is to go talk to the writer and tell them to give better options. Lol

Daniel Wills

Feels like we’re all about to grab Shirt by his ankles and shake him until the secrets come out. *screams into the void* tell us already!!! And then Dawn/Raythe don’t know what is going to happen anyway. Just that it’s gonna make Jason loop time.

Gavin Smith

I have a feeling that someone will kill Emi and that is what causes him to manipulate time

Frog

The offer does indeed suck. But like. What stops him from taking the loss, waiting till things chill out, and THEN abusing the time travel to quietly save what was lost?

Eric M

Shirt, what horrible future are you conjuring for us?

David

“There is always a choice” is up there on the list for most irritating things someone who is keeping by secrets can say. It’s always manipulative to force a choice without information. They’ve been keeping this from Jason for years and now, combined with timeline nonsense, it ruins story tension for me.

Matt Soltis

Oh it’s time for that bastard thadwick the energy vampire to pop back up again isn’t it.

Laura Hemly

Oh man. And we have to wait two more days to learn the next piece of torture with which Shirt plans to keep us all hopelessly anxious??

David

Because whatever opportunity for time travel bullshit would be gone by then. The offer is garbage and keeping the information from Jason after everything he has done would be infuriating if it was me.

Joanna

Ominous af

Pierce

Oooh heavy shit. Timey-wimey stuff is always messy - I’m eager to see how you manage it!

Bethany Bluebird

YOU'RE BACK!! I missed you dude!! (Well- your stories. I don't know you, lmao. But they were such a comfort/excellent distraction while I was pregnant/sick all the time--) And now YOU'RE BACK!! STORYTIME!! Cannot wait to see where this goes. It's been SUCH a fun ride so far! ....goddamn you and your cliffhangers, sir.

Meruem92

He finished a sandwich!

Attackins

Dawn is back just in time!

OJCOPACABANA

I think the bridge will cause the two planets/universes to mush together and one gets deleted/overwritten

JWR

I do not think anyone is going to die. My reasoning is that if someone important to Jason would die he would just put them in his astral kingdom and and keep them safe until the event that they are worried about is over. I personally think it’s either going to be the bridge between the two world will be destroyed and Jason will not be allowed to go back to one of the two worlds permanently so he would either have to give up on his friends or his family. Or, one of the two worlds will be destroyed.

Chris

Sounds like a bunch of bullshit. You have to promise and do all sorts of weird stuff preventing yourself from knowing what im about to tell you. And I won't tell you what the fuck is going on unless you make some vague promise without knowing the consequences. Honestly sounds like some kind of contrived way to tell the readers "ooo i have a secret thing I'm not gonna tell you, so you have to analyze everything to try and figure out what's going on". If that ends up being what happens better to just not even have the conversation.

Julia

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Steven Thompsen

Shirt Love you bro but you reusing the same troop as getting kind of annoying and we all know that Jason's dumbass is just going to accept it and be forced into a s***** situation and yada yada yada honestly I'd prefer this conversation didn't even happen and stuff just happened how they did it just feels like he's being again for like the 10 millionth time bullied into a s***** situation

Kathryn Lemay

I'm screaming in excitement at the possibility that we will see Dawn in the next chapter! Omg I am so excited, I miss her so much! Tyftc!

Marvin bennett

Did the diamond ranker guy ever leave? The pirate leader guy

Marvin bennett

Unless he was just gold, not the one that spoke to jason the guy that sent the speaker in and then tried to jump jason

Malcolm Gray

Great chapter, if I’m Jason these conversations about how he’s basically fucked and he needs to just accept without actually telling what going on would get very annoying

JC

He’s totally going to set fire to the universe for her.

Kendal Bozant

The diamond rank pirate never entered the universe, he sent the gold rank captain and crew to secure it on his behalf

Jeff

Worst deals in the history of deals, if you ask me.

Michael

Was thinking the same. Probably gonna involve Emi or Erika. Or maybe a choice between them or one of his friends.

RonGAR

Soooo Basically you told a guy who is always looking for the 'WIN' that he will suffer a "Guaranteed Loss" and expect him not to do anything? SMH Not only that, you already know he will 'try' and it will more than likely end in disaster for EVERYONE. ----------------- So who would Jason risk 2 worlds and a universe over, in order to reverse their death. I say, his team, and or Emi. Other than that, a death is a death and he can let go. We seen that already when it came to Gary. (Even though he did try to save him) ------ Who is going to be the Villian who is gonna do it? I say: Thadwick Mercer (Energy Vamp) or One of the Astral Kings. I forget her name. But I bet either she or Thadwick are currently doing some serious damage to Pallimustus, that when Jason and Team return, it would be to a ruin! A lot of ppl and places they know would be unrecognizable. ----------- Maybe its someone on earth. Maybe the big villian is that Simon guy that Jason and team 'can't seem to find' .... Which leads me to ask another question. See part 2.

Hunter

Yeah I honestly wish shirt had let the events happen without Jake or the reader actually knowing what the consequences would be.

FabianTheGreat

AGHHHH THIS CHAPTER IS WORST OF THE CLIFFHANGERS

Sean C Jackson

I think he's really just doing this as a way for us to get some info about what's gonna happen without it affecting what Jason will do.

Joanna

So now comes the super irritating question: assuming Jason doesn’t just refuse to be told with these restrictions, do the readers get the info or not? It’s not a given either way from my perspective. While Jason is certainly the main character of the series, and his prime avatar is our primary point of view, the books aren’t first person and we’ve seen lots of scenes that he wasn’t privy to (even though that’s becoming less and less likely between Shade and the domains). So we could hear some or all of what Jason’s PA isn’t allowed to know. That could lead to some tremendous dramatic tension, handled well. Like horror movies when you know where the monster is. Not telling us, since “Jason” won’t remember may be the more obvious choice, but it’s not the only one. I just hope Shirt doesn’t fake us out by not telling us anything and having Jason believe he refused to hear it when he actually did and we won’t know at all till it all comes to a head

RonGAR

Part 2: Jason is the SYSTEM ADMIN/CREATOR/HEDGEMON correct? And we already seen that he can access the system and send private messages to ppl, and isolate areas and lock them out, correct? Sooooo if he is looking for this Simon guy or whoever, Why o why doesn't he just, oh I don't know... USE HIS SYSTEM???!!!! Is he too busy being unnecessarily overworked to think straight? Bro, You gave the system to everyone. SHouldn't you know where EVERYONE IS and WHAT THEY CAN DO?!!! Shouldn't you be able to message ANYONE?! PING ANYONE? And if you can't, all you have to do is remember, YOU CONTROL THE SYSTEM! So make it THAT YOU CAN! DUH!!

Tavon LaChapelle

Jakkar is the pirate leader who's diamond rank but he couldn't enter the world because Jason's not diamond yet his subordinate is being held prisoner by Jason I believe he was the one who led the pirate invasion

Keldra

Em will be killed by some method impossible to stop...

Andre Morales

I vote Emi as well, only thing I can think of he would compromise everything for. That or his child. I was thinking emi would do something to link herself to the earth or the bridge through her essence combination which would require her to die

Thomas Froehling

The dimensional vessel is in the shape of a phoenix, while Dawns was describes as a small cottage; I guess it will be the current First Sister of the World-Phoenix, so she/they can speak to Jason.

Gotrek65

Time and space manipulation! I wonder what he's gonna choose and what the issue is...

Charles W. Grainger

I hope it's something else. But between the deal with death and this. I'm terrified Emi is going to get taken out while Jason's prime avatar is far away and he'll lose it.

Mitha

All this talk about creating and seeds gives me future builder vibes.

Jacob Kraus

Oh snap, I think we all know who is about to show up! As always, TYFTC!!

Andre Morales

Doesn’t Jason already know he can hide things from his avatar after talking to Dominion?

RonGAR

Yeah I agree. This was the worse way to 'tease' the readers. Especially after coming from a break. SMH

RonGAR

Yeah i wouldnt make that deal. Either you trust me to know or you don't. You deal with the consequences either way. Leave me be.

RonGAR

Oh yeah I forgot about That Diamond ranked Pirate.

RonGAR

Facts: It read like some writer/author contrived B.S to me as well.

Kathryn Lemay

But remember what dawn said to the current first sister, she said something like, if the time comes that she needs a space palace to travel in, then she would use one (she was taking her to see the world phoenix in person, at the end of book 3)

Hayden Leech

An Entire universe away… I feel Zara getting upset.

Rowdy Robby

Welcome back Shirt. We've been waiting decades to hear this and see Dawn again. And you make us wait. Anticipation...

Hunter

Literally all we needed was dawns OG warning and Rayths reminder after Jake fixed the throne. I don’t want to be told what’s going to happen I want to be shown what’s going to happen without knowing what Jasons thoughts are before hand

Joanna

It’s a solid thought, but do remember he’s not in complete control of it yet. He could certainly message Simon if he wants, but that won’t do much good. And we’ve never seen him pinpoint someone’s location outside the immediate vicinity. Recall it took him days of effort to figure out how to send a message just to earthlings back on Pallimustus, and that was doing something the System is already built for, not something entirely new. I doubt he’d be able to make that big a change to how it works before he reaches true transcendence

Alex Reed

A literary opportunity: once Jason agrees to an NDA, the conversation is cut off from the reader.

gray matter

That’s interesting I haven’t thought about that. Most of my thoughts involve the releasing of the rules of intrusion. Whether that’s a close by universal empire or the builder coming back. I’ve also thought about it allowing the gods to cross through the bridge and have influence on both worlds and that causing some kind of problem.

Joanna

This sounds like the kind of scale that would need to be involved for the big players to give a damn, yeah

Evernap

Next chapter: Return of the Hegemon. Jason resets back to the first time he was born onto Palimatus to redo everything again.

Sam

I'm thinking Earth or Pallimustus dies

Tempitheadem

Oooh dawn decided to get/use a showy dimensional vessel, no more cottage?

Chiqui Joy

lol - actually finishing a sandwich is deffy the most surprising part of the chapter!

Chris Pollan

Ahhhhhhhh... dang it... you're to good at cliffhangers!

ABTelford

Things have gotten interesting! 😎

RonGAR

IF he can isolate a whole area FROM the system. I'm pretty sure he can do other things with it if he 'TRIED'. The problem is, he is on mental VAYKAY and any problems he has, he wants to handle it as A GOLD, and a member of team biscuit. He is not keen on or not ready to think like a 'Cosmic Being' /Astral King. Yet. Barely wants to 'accept' that he is what he is. In a way, if he could reverse time already to get that time back w/ his friends, and 'grow' with them, he would. But since he can't, he is just going to play 'Gold ranker' and pal-around with his team and company. But this Simon guy is on the lose and making havoc, and now some other major thing is happening. So he needs to find this guy fast, and he has a way of doing so already!

Justin

Yes DAWN HAS ARRIVED

Arieh Sochaczevski

Biscuits! I’d tell Raythe to take a hike with an offer like that, and I’m a softie compared to Jason. Accepting an offer that ties his hands based on someone else’s judgement and vague hints is so far out of character that I can’t believe she’s even trying. Next he’ll be calling Ms. Chloe’s 800 number for advice. Even if that’s Dawn coming in to play backup, it’s a stupid play. The fact that they’ve had information they knew would be important to him and have been holding it back got so long only burns whatever capital they have with him. The only thing that makes sense is that they’re trying to egg him on. Play him into getting his back up and working harder than ever.

Devin Rojas

Wow... I had not considered that! Yeah he would legit try to use the Throne again if Emi is in danger. No holds barred, no quarter , Jason would lose it.

Ray S.

That would make up until now an excellent prollogue.

Hunter

I would love for this thing that is going to happen to be on Palli but Jason and Borris have mentioned before that it is going to take place on Earth. Rayth’s tone makes me believe this threat is existential but bringing in dawn and talking about Jason possibly creating time loops to try and prevent it leads me to think it’s more personal. Definitely think it’s bigger than just a teammate or family members life on the line.

glalizas

Damn it I really don’t look forward to the potential love triangle that is coming. I like both Zara and Dawn, but honestly only Dawn can keep up with Jason.

MrCynical

And somehow Dominion knew someone else was already set to teach him. Which we now know is Raythe. And Dominion knew that despite this happening after Jason left Pallimustus and it's happening in Jason's astral kingdom. Which begs the question, how could Dominion know Raythe would be teaching him to keep things from his prime avatar two universes away?

RonGAR

I agree. Its all contrived B.S. Tell him or don't, Either way they aren't going to try to help anything that happens after the facts , so I don't see the point of this deal or conversation.

RonGAR

Avatar Jason For Zara. Concerige Jason for Dawn. Problem solved. lol #HaremTime.

glalizas

I had the same thought but that is not to my taste and I doubt Jason would do that

RonGAR

Well, if it is happening on Earth, then its will have to do w/ Simon and Transformation Zones. I keep saying it. There is one way to Tie up a man with a Hero complex. ... Give him something to save. I could see Simon making multiple Transformation Zones happen. Causing Jason team to split up and help deal with it before everything is lost. aka Earth is destroyed. With that plan, all of the Golds from Palli will be tied down trying to save Earth and the Villians would go back to their plan with everyone else. Infecting them, releasing monsters upon them, etc, etc. And the fact that Jason doesn't want to 'Use his Astral king Powers and Put all those messengers he is carrying around to work' Will be the reason he will take this loss. He is too stubborn to make moral adaptations.

Nergie

Ok this has me leaning into an idea that has been rolling in my head for a while. Knowledge is the true enemy or at least on team bad guy. Idk why but it fits with dominions clue and raythes condition. Probably wildly wrong but hey its as good an idea as any.

Keldra

The problem with this type of setup is that it has to pay off. Em has to die, or Farah has to die- something at that level. And Jason can't turn back time (deus ex machina) to stop it.

Aaron Schwartz

I think it’s worth mentioning that. This event, whatever it is, cannot be something that is only known about in the upper reaches of the inner circles of the great Astral beings and their followers. Whatever this thing is it was (relatively speaking) commonly known enough that NORETH knew about it. He may know some stuff, but he not in the same league as someone like Dawn when it comes to cosmic secrets. I’ve never understood this plot line. Dawn said it was a fight that would definitely kill him. Then he became literally immortal, so that consequences is actually impossible. Now Rayth isn’t even talking to him about the threat. She’s talking to him because he somehow already won, but she’d like to politely ask him to take a dive on purpose because the way in which he won is upsetting the keeper of the sands. That’s just bullshit. None of these excuses seem to hold up… 1) it will definitely kill him. Answer= he’s immortal 2) it involves channeling cosmic forces that no person could hope to successfully control. Answer= he’s already done that once and is now in control of something that is very close to the backbone of the laws of the cosmos. 3) it will make him enemies that he has no hope of standing against. Answer= they’ll just have to get in line behind the rest of the FUCKING GREAT ASTRAL BEINGS I just dont get it. If the event is on a cosmic scale, I think he has the credentials now to be read in on whatever it is. If it’s not, I think he has the power to deal with it by now. And if it’s small enough scale to be relevant to him as a person directly, then there’s no reason that it’s significant enough for all of these people to know about it in advance. There’s just no event on any of the scales that Jason operates on now that would still be a significant threat to him in the present as it was when he was back on earth and everyone was warning him about it. He’s advanced too far in too many different kinds of ways.

jeffrey niski

It's getting spicy. The ending feels like it's coming and the earth political BS doesn't seem like it much matters any more

ThreeErmz

I would accept the end of a universe or two as retribution for Emi's death

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

mhaj58

I’m guessing that the world phoenix is coming over with Helsveth, Dawn, and her and Jason’s daughter. A desperate father with access to the cosmic throne and the power to control time via link between worlds might be the greatest danger to the cosmos. Assuming that the GABs actually try to endanger the children. They don’t have the best track record against Jason. 0 to every single battle

Levi

Welcome back shirt. Share a picture or two from your writers trip with the patrons (and with your mum).

Aaron

Does anyone else think that Raythe, with the ability to go places other people cannot, is the Kwisatz Haderach of this story?

xXMetrinSlerbaXx

Yeah this just seems like contrived bullshit, might be the reason I drop the series depending on how it goes.

Tim

At what point does Jason have a daughter? The only "child" he has is Nik.

N8rtotPlayz

Doubtful. It’s clearly a vessel of the cult of the world phoenix. Perhaps the prime vessel. Perhaps another member. Maybe Dawn is on the cusp of full Transcendence. It will be interesting that’s for sure.

Sabroso JFD!

Jason set up Farah to be able to stop him. I wonder how this will play out?

Tristan

WooHoo Dawns back baby!!!!!

Joanna

I’ve had that suspicion cross my mind once or twice before, particularly with the way Dawn warned Jason’s team back toward the end of book eight. “I can’t tell you why I’m asking this and I can’t tell you why I can’t tell you why” just reeks of trying to hide things from the omniscient

Adrian

More like inner space. He's in space inside his own astral realm, where he has allowed Dawn, or the World Phoenix to visit

Michael Romo

I wanna say it's dawn bit that's the Phoenixs ship so it's what was her name? Hester? The new first sister of the order?

Adrian

Oh, I'm pretty sure it's not our kind, lovable Shirt anymore. This has to be a sadistic Valtay brain worm.

Brad Gammey

... now that's a proper cliff. Damn, two more days.

Adrian

Sadly (but humorously) Jason is not know for patience, or restraint. Or sanity, really. While it's absolutely manipulative to not tell him, it's also likely necessary from the perspective of people who understand how shitty he is at assessing risk, and how self destructive he can be. Manipulation doesn't have to be bad for the person being snowed, or contrived drama. It can be the objectively best option for everyone, at least for a while.

BloodStorm

I hate time loop, time travel stories. Out of the several hundred I’ve read or watched only a handful were handled well. It’s one reason I couldn’t finish Jake’s Magical Market.

BloodStorm

I feel the same way. I have a bad feeling about this upcoming event we’ve been waiting on

Sabroso JFD!

Spitballing here. Everything, absolutely everything comes into question when time is brought into question. Boris came into the story with big earthling nerd energy. Perfect for Jason. As if he new him already. What if Jason IS the astral king that lent him to .. (i don't recall their name) the astral being on pal? What if the angels from earth are the beings that Jason has on his prison planet currently? Jason stated in THIS current chapter about a hands off approach to letting things grow and become what they are. What if, with some time manipulation bs, Boris is the result of Jason time looping back to the jurassic period and letting the angels have an existence that fit within his moral code of free agency. Jason swore to a one man jihad against the current way things are set up. What if the entire unorthodox angel groups across every universe is spawned from future Jason doing some time travel shenanigans? Doods this whole thought just gave me goosebumps. I think Boris's offer of being able to help just one time might be a MUCH larger contribution than I had thought of before ALSO!!! The cult/order of the reaper. Maybe Jason is the big bad guy behind the curtain manipulating events to ensure that young Jason evolves to the point where he can handle this unknown situation? What if Jason is the unknown diamond ranker that originally commissioned the greenstone iron rankers to retrieve the Reepers artifact? It makes me call into question destiny or fate influence that has been leading Jason by the nose ring, what if it was future Jason influencing himself?

Joanna

Reading again, I’m getting this vague feeling that what Raythe is really about here is trying to guide him not only away from messing with time travel but also toward some even less obvious solution to the looming problem. That whole thing about offering to find and aid him when/where no one else can is super sus

Sabroso JFD!

Jason may have been behind his own exclusion from team biskets guild as well

RonGAR

@Sabroso Love your thinking. But if this turns out to be one big B.S. Time Loop, I'm Out! And I think most others would be too. But you might be right. Its scary how things fit if that is that case. But don't see the point of everything that happened just for it to be part of some loop Jason was already in and had started himself in order to save the life of friends and team mates. Like bro...do what everyone else does. Recognize your job is dangerous and accept the loss! And if Raythe doesn't want this to happen, why not just spit it out and say, "This and this is gonna happen. This and this person is going to die, and you've tried a million times to save them, you are currently in the middle of your millionth and 1 cycle, and I'm here to tell you it doesn't work. Nothing you do will ever work. So don't bother trying. It's time to STOP!"

Sabroso JFD!

The thought of Boris and Jason having a friendship that dates back to the jurassic period due to time traveling shenanigans just tickles me. What is the one thing that Shirt has shoved down our throats about what is important to Jason more than anything? It's friendship. Spitballing. I love the thought that Boris and Jason have been friends for thousands upon thousands of years. And when push turns to shove with this unknown upcoming time nonsense, I love the idea that Jason may have sent himself one of his best friends to help himself along the way. Hypothetically. I just gave myself onion ninjas.

GuyWhoReadsALot

Literally all 991 chapters are contrived bullshit. It's just entertaining contrived bullshit.

Bethany Bluebird

I adore the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff!!! So freaking excited to see how Shirt handles this. However he does, I'm sure it'll be excellent <3

RonGAR

@Sabroso Like I said, if this turns out to be one big Time loop, im out. And the reason I'll be out, is because, over and over People like Boris, Raythe, Death, World Phoenix, Dawn and others had information for him. They had 'WARNINGS' of things to come. They knew this person/group was going to die, and Jason would do something reckless, and they all waited till it was too late to tell Jason. But somehow they are early enough to tell him when this or that happens, he shouldn't do anything about it... Even though they had the information the WHOLE TIME!!! This is why I hate Time Loop stories. Its always some simple shit that could've happened but never did. But just like the Book, The Time Machine. He can't save them by going back in time, because if nothing happened to them, he would've never invented Time Travel! Essentially he cannot use the 'effect' of their death to go back in time to remove the 'cause' of him inventing time travel. IF he invented Time Travel for a different reason altogether then, then their death would be 'outside' the loop of cause and effect. But NOBODY WARNED HIM THAT HE WAS GOING TO LOSE PPL HE LOVED! So that would be the reason why the loop continues ad infinity. SMGDH. Even thinking on it give me a head ache. SO I PRAY to all the Gods that Time LOoP and all that B.S. Never makes it into this story.

Sabroso JFD!

With shirt introducing the potential of time travel and with Shirt being the quality of author that he is, I have to assume that we have already seen/read the effects of future Jason's meddling. They were just portrayed to us from the point of veiw of young Jason so it would not have been obvious to us as the reader. .... just thinking it out, from the higher powers to weird events Jason found himself in, what did we miss as the reader that Shirt laid out simply for us if we simply had context? I need to reread the whole damn series again now. Again lol. Dooods this puts a whole new spin on Dominion for me. He helps those with the power to rule. What if future Original Astral God time time traveling Jason and Dominion are old pals? Jason does not want to be a tyrant but ends up with the power to easily be one. After the last few interactions with Dominion, (which I truly enjoyed Shirt) what if all of Dominion's fixation on Jason (from Iron rank to Gold) is Dominion helping in the best way he knows how because he has already met Future Jason and knows the power that will one day be at young Jason's command once he grows?

Sabroso JFD!

If there are time loops than we already would have seen them but not been aware of them. I need to reread everything now

Monadologist

Well, say what you will about it as a plot device, a time loop is _one_ way of getting him to diamond rank without retiring the entire supporting cast of characters.

Sabroso JFD!

@ RonGAR We as the reader would not be privy to that info from the perspective that we have been given. And what did Raythe just tell Jason? "You are going to lose" What were we told happens to beings at Jason's level that "lose" in the 'Rumble in the Jungle' bit? That they will reset and will take untold years to has the slight chance of regaining their lost self? What if Jason is willing to accept the loss, the loss of self or whatever diminished state, to time travel back in time thousands or millions of years to give himself the time needed to heal back to a state that would allow him the results he is aiming for on that million and 1 cycle you mentioned? That sounds like a Jason plan to me

Trevor Mallow

Love triangle with Jason, Zara, and Dawn anyone?

RonGAR

@Sabroso That does sound like a Jason plan. No visible logic, completely dependent on 'Luck' and acts of god aka author machinations to get him out of it, and eventually will to take a 'sacrifice', to complete. [But can it be called a sacrifice now? B/c he is immortal. And the only thing he loses is 'time' with his good pals. ] See... Time Loops. SMH Ruins everything. Now you are asking yourself questions you don't want to ask because now you are going from a progression based LitRPG into something else. Yes, we are probably going to find out this Time loop happened and we are at the "End" and "Beginning" once more. (SMH) But if that is that case, why did he allow himself to make soooo many mistakes? Why didn't he correct his other mistakes? Let me guess... "Who says he didn't change those mistakes?" Maybe he did that in one of his many many many tries. SMGDH. See... more foolishness. Im SOOOO GONE if this ends up being a time loop.

Laura Hemly

It could just be her being SO old and familiar with spacetime in ways even other humans serving GABs aren't so that she could show him a way around a time loop vs having dire consequences to people he cares about. Or maybe it's as hinky as you suggest!

Laura Hemly

The better to drag the reveal out for several chapters to torture us!

Laura Hemly

Well, that's why Dawn left back in, what, book 7? To reach full transcendence.

Laura Hemly

Something tells me the one person that idea wouldn't be popular is Shirt...

Austin Young

Pshhh, Rayeth is just like all the others counting our boy out before it's begun. Why do I have a feeling that the blood oak and vampire Thadwick are involved? Of course vampire Thadwick will bring about an apocalypse. He'll probably drain Jason's prime avatar. That weapon that destroyed his last avatar suggests Thadwick could.

Stephanie Washburn

Ahahaha. Yeah. But it's more like..... She is being purposefully vague, even though she's trying to talk him out of destroying the time scape in this local area.

Laura Hemly

Staying out of the whole time loop discussion, the AK nobody can remember the name of is Vesta Carmis Zell.

Austin

I see A lot of tears 😭 in Jason’s future. Fara might “kill”/stop him. Which I know was the whole point to begin with, but 🤯 OH NO! I’m more upset for Nik & Emi having to go without seeing him, again!!! They need some proper time together.

CringeWorthyStudios

I know the secret big bad event™️ has been teased for ages now but it’s getting less and less interesting. Predetermined stuff and the whole “oh no, you have to lose” is kinda boring to read, regardless of if Jason wins anyway. Adding possible time travel just maxes it worse… And then they went back and forth with filler fluff until we didn’t even find out anything. I normally like the slice-of-life conversations but that was too filler-y even for me and I’ve happily read a chapter that was 8k words about making pancakes before. Thanks for the chapter!

Austin

She said she would be there to help and guide, I think 🤔 💭 (rereading…)

Laura Hemly

But by Jason's prime avatar not knowing, that prevents gossipy gods like Knowledge from learning from him. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable thing to me if it's something that should stay on Earth only for a certain period of time (so it perhaps can't affect things on Pallimustus).

Kalanaere

Did anybody consider that it's even the WP herself just being showy? She's particularly thankful to Jason for not stripping her identity away and while yes she made a deal regarding Earth, I think she'd have done that anyhow

RonGAR

@Laura Thanks for the Name. We all forgot it. Its only been 50 or so chapter ago or in RL terms a YEAR or more. Had other things on our minds. But thanks for keeping a steel trap and helping us out. LOL

Liy

You're getting a lot of negativity here, but I love your theories!

David

Time travel in a non-time traveling story is kind of up there with evil twins, clones, last minute double agent reveals, or saying it was all a dream.

David

I dropped JMM before time travel came up. Glad I did. Magical market, my ass.

Betsy R

I’ve actually had the thought purity isn’t really gone and made some kind of deal to hide out and pretend it sanctioned itself so it could ride the link once it’s stabilized after the builder gets what it wants and someone finishes the job so they can be the singular god in a world that was always mostly human and thus they can spread their idea of purity without opposition. Or that Bethlin the Reaver will show up having been name dropped not that long ago. Noreth also made a comment about how “she” wouldn’t be pleased with the earthly god domains so I think it’s some entity wanting to set themselves up as a god on earth since the magic is low enough to take advantage of their not being native gods.

CringeWorthyStudios

Oh, no, that was legitimate. Just because I didn’t enjoy the chapter as much as usual doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the work that goes into it.

Michael Romo

Honestly when I thought about what would happen to cause him to do that would probably be the loss of one or both of them.

RonGAR

Exactly couldn't have said it better. Making a foolish deal for information you can do nothing w/. and A promise to accept a painful future loss, and then add in Time travel. SMH. Had a headache and a burst blood vessel after reading this chapter. LOL Utter nonsense all around. Who is gonna make that deal? Who is gonna promise not to act later on without being told who and what I'm about to lose? SMH.

Arieh Sochaczevski

Mortal power avatar for Zara unaware of transcendental goings-on of transcendental beings that in no way resembles mortal relationships.

Philipp Battenberg

Either Shade knows more than he lets on or he is just wise. He suggested just taking anyone Jason cares about and leaving.

Maria Klein

Oh man that’s a painful cliffhanger!

WaxDinosaur

If the bridge is destroyed but both planets are stable, he could use Boris to learn how to travel and find tons of planets, almost certainly including Earth and Pallimustus, right? Unless you mean the WP or some other GAB blocks him from entering one of the two which would definitely piss him off

Matt Cannon

@author Not sure if someone else already said this, buy didnt the other Astral King, Jamis I think? also mention that Jason can keep info from his prime avatar?

AfroMocha

Speaking of shade. Does he know what's going on what the order of the reaper? The trouble that Rufus grandfather and the mirror king didn't wanna bring Jason into? Is it connected with the clockwork king and other outworlders appearing on earth?

AfroMocha

back when Boris and Clive were talking about the bridge and time travel was brought up I had mentioned with those facts and Jason linking the bridge he should be able to time travel himself. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fuckery with the other outwolders that have visited earth and some of the other oddities of earth and palli

MoonlitShade

Really really really REALLY not a fan of the whole “the hero is predetermined / destined to lose as a sacrifice for the greater good” that shit is often very annoying ant not fun to read. And the whole point of us reading these stories is to have fun doing so. However. Doing the impossible is kinda Jason’s thing, so you’ll probably make him struggle and overcome it when it counts. I have faith in the author, we believe in you, Shirt. 🙏

Philipp Battenberg

I don't think he knows what the Order is currently up to. He was inside the astral space for a few centuries. Wasn't it just as the Order split from the Cult? But it isn't unreasonable that Shade might know something there. That there are more than usual outworlders between Pallimustus and Earth is due to their twin nature. Something explained sometimes during the first Earth arc. The astral bridge is just piggybacking on that connection. But it's not out of the question that the Order is mixed up in whatever is to come, though I'd peg them as a catspaw of some other power.

Philipp Battenberg

Dominion mentioned it (as defense against Knowledge) and he even said that there's already someone queued up to teach Jason. It was during the discussion where Dominion "taught" Jason (via Orb) to hide his divinity.

Philipp Battenberg

Yeah. If Jason what game is afoot, he might just be able to change it/flip the board. Or Jason prepares appropriately for the fallout of The Bad Thing. For example building the magical infrastructure to move Earth into his Astral Kingdom. Or the knowledge and coming "to terms with it" (whichever way) helps him reach (Peak) Diamond Rank gaining an actual fighting chance.

Philipp Battenberg

One: Well the intend here is to explicitly have no time loop. Two: I think time loops are just hard to get right, so there are far too often bad. In "Saintess Summons Skeletons" there's a time loop where the same few minutes are time looped. It lasts something like one chapter.

Philipp Battenberg

Inspiration! As Dominion is unambiguously Team Jason and on the idea of absorbing Earth: Dominion actually told Jason to become their god in that same discussion. We have seen multiple times that some gods (and other entities) gave Jason subtle help. For example Healer talking about sanctioning before Jason went into the hole (to inevitably fight Undeath's avatar).

Keldra

Sometimes, fate will punch you, it will hurt, and there's nothing you can do to stop it or "overcome it".

Keldra

He's implying that Dawn got pregnant from her time with Jason.

WindGunner

Sure but this is a Story not real life. A Story meant to entertain and distract from shitty real life. We don't want realism we want a good Story. Just because it happens in real life doesn't mean we need it to happen in a Story. for Example Sa, abuse, etc.

Danny

Was soll der Cliffhanger man I vomit a stream ...

BloodStorm

Not telling Jason what’s coming at this point is just silly give him a heads up to prepare or grab his people and leave

Darthnarciss

See, I'm not seeing this as a "destined to lose" situation, more like, "I've seen what's coming, and you, and everyone with you, lack the power to stop it" to which Jason, once his niece or friend/family dies, snaps and rolls back time, causing a loop as he keeps failing over and over. Its not that he's destined, it's that he can't stop it.

Fate Hydrax

Didn’t Dawn tell Shoko that Jason had to build the bridge to give them a chance? That means that Jason should have a chance at victory.

William Wilson

This BS again. Its really sad that this stroy continues to evolve to just a constant deluge of swift kicks to the nuts for Jason. You need to have a chat with Rufus's mom!

GrizzLeo

Jason's gonna save scum after the system unlocks the ability to save/reload the gam-- universe(s).

GrizzLeo

Seriously with System Administrator, I'd have Avatars studying game development and work with a team of developers in his soul realm just to then take those ideas to develop control over the System. Node space is basically just the source code of the universe and Jason is going to be an Anti-virus. There's other places in the cosmos stuck in timeloops afterall.

Tom C

This chapter condensed: Raythe: I have a secret. Jason: oh really what is it? Raythe: not telling not telling! 😂😂 Just messing wit ya. TFTC!

Javaman

Hey, just a heads up: Hugo mom's are due by March 14, and He Who fights with Monsters is eligible for both Best Novel and Best Series. If you can, nominate! It would be cool to see some litrpg and indy authors on the ballot.

DJ Doughty

The more I reread the books, the more I agree that knowledge is somehow involved in whatever this event is. Can't wait to see how wrong I am!

Kelly

Not. Nice. *sigh* Patience is a virtue. Patience is a virtue. Patience is a virtue…

joshua christopher

Oh shit his ex is showing up after all this? It’s going to get awkward when Zara finds out!

Kelly

Or Helsveth on the super duper dimensional ship. 😄

Nathan

This is the world phoenix’s new avatar, not Dawn.

RonGAR

Jason is fine acting like Batman with a Superman in his pocket, right now. lol. All he really wants to do, is 'Pal around' and make up for lost 'team time'. He is not looking into his 'larger aspects' as of now. Which is completely foolish because it would solved his current issue in a 1 second flat. How? Easy! He controls the system, so he can surely find/ping/locate anyone using it. So why not just use it to locate this person (Simon) ?

RonGAR

CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG: Jason has trust issues correct? (When his brother and gf hooked up and his family supported his brother) So, why go to one of his soul constructs and tell that construct to 'keep secrets'. A secret that would have a profound life changing effect on Jason, once he knows? So now Shirt is making it look like Jason can't trust what his own soul constructs say or do, if they can lie by omission like this. AND FOR WHAT? A Secret the universe won't let him act on to stop or reverse? Then how bout you don't go into his soul space, talk like a mysterious a-hole, and ask his own soul to keep secrets from him?. How bout you just Fuk Off, and let shit play out, like it was going to do anyway! OR just Tell him what it is and help him try to prevent it! There is a bright Idea. How bout we try THAT instead?! Yeah, let's go with that. Come on in, Take off your Dunce Cap, clown shoes and red nose, and let's come up with a better idea than having Jason get betrayed by his own soul construct to keep your 'great big fu8kTard secret!'

Andre Morales

This reminds me of what shade told Jason about the dead worlds locked in time where anything done externally gets reverted from book 6 when he is in the first transformation zone

mhaj58

Information is in the foreshadowing. It’s like there’s a cataclysm of dangerous proportions, with every possible solution making way for a greater problem. That’s the paradox of life, but I’m amazed that every single being believes that their judgment is better than Jason’s when it’s becoming more painfully obvious that they are wrong. When you find yourself in a hopeless situation, that’s when you truly reveal yourself. Jason brings light to the darkest days and it’s time for the cosmos to realize that he is the lord it needs

GentlemanG33k

Did Shirt slip in that Jason has made more of Nik's kind@

Ariel

I bet the secret has to do with Clive's wife... His team was warned that Clive couldn't know either.

Kz-necromancer

i dont recall, did Jason ever name her? I feel like "Beth the destroyer" would be appropriate

Ligeia

Dawn said if a more imposing ship than her cottage was needed, she would use one. I suspect this is just such a ship. We should find out in (checks clock) 6.5 hours....

Ligeia

But Raythe is suggesting that the completion of the bridge gives Jason the ability to go into a time loop, which according to her is Very Not Good. Personally, I think Groundhog Day is fine if the looper resolves their issue in the end, but that's just me.

Daniel Wills

Is this the payout from chapter 895? When Dominion told Jason that someone was already lined up to teach him how to hide things from his prime avatar? Though, it’d be interesting if prime avatar Jason could learn to keep things from UniverseJason. It’d be poetic if the dichotomy of Jason (brutal edgelord / whimsical BBQ master) came to a head and the final “fight” was Jason not trusting Jason to be Jason. Like the Jason that the Nightmare hag showed him.

Daniel Storm

No, he's only made the one Lehenik, Nik. She was saying that he's not the first to create a Lehenik. That there are more iterations of his kind out in the broader cosmos.

Kconraw

Thx for the chapter

Opossums Coat

Oh the implications of this chapter (excited)

Kristy Riedel

Raythe would not bring Helsveth to convince Jason of anything. He doesn't know and trust her, he knows and trusts Dawn.

wegnertroy .

Dawn vs Zara who wins Jason’s affection

Vodyinoi

Everything about this seems like a foreshadowing of someone Jason loves dying. It's even kind of heavy handed with it, which is unusual for Shirt. I'm thinking Zara or Emi. Zara has seemed like a character primed for an 'arc' where she's there, becomes close and popular, then dies. Similar to Asya. My money is on Zara kacking it. I could, of course, be completely wrong. Even if I'm right, there'll also be collateral and Jason will feel like he's a terrible person for feeling bad about his own loss when everyone else lost more, etc.

andrew keefe

I find it interesting that Raythe has been the Prime vessel for the Keeper of Sands and according to other Primes always has been as far as anybody can remember.
