Guess I'm blowing off work for the next 12 minutes.

Sometimes the answer to the question 'why?' is simply 'because you can'. And adding a CVT to any car is just awesome. Yep, I'm Dutch, why you ask? :) (for those who didn't get that reference: the CVT was invented by the Dutchman that founded the DAF car factory)

nobody can eat that many codas

It isnt as stupid as you might think to add cvt-s to electric cars, you see electric motors have about the same torq and same efficiency across the whole rpm range, but the output power is a produce of torq and rpm, and if you can run the motor at its peak power from a very low speed, you can get a lot more go from the same motor. Its usually not worth the extra cost and efficiency loss for normal driving, but it does have some reasonability behind it

Awesome stuff! Im a machinist, so if you need custom work done i can help out. I know you had talked about it in a previous video of buying a lathe. At any rate, if you need a hand, or just advice on it or more complex machining i can give you a hand. I live (from what ive gathered) fairly close to most of the filming locations. You can shoot me a message on here if you need anything

I wish we knew the story behind the CVT decision. It’s probably something dumb like an executive that knows something about cars (CVTs are efficient!) but not enough (CVT won’t make electric motors more efficient!) On a personal note, Robert, I found you through Under Dunn and have me binge watching videos on a topic I’m not even interested in. Keep at it!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! I went ahead and got myself a mini lathe to play around with machining and make the occasional useful part, but there's a fair amount it can't do

Really enjoying all the Coda content! I wonder if there's anyone left that still uses one as a daily driver or if they've all fallen into obscurity.

Last night I was reading a forum post made in 2015 by a Coda owner. He was having such a hard time replacing a single bad battery cell that he went out and bought a first gen Honda Insight instead. I suspect I have the only daily driven Coda at this point

Very excited that the Wheego gets to live again!!!

That Snyder ST600c is still sitting in the same spot it has for over 6 years on a tiny “dealer” lot and I’m really questioning my sanity for wanting it more and more each time I see it.

So basically that converted Coda has the battery of a Citicar in the trunk?

If you don't call the video about fixing the Wheego "Breathing LiFe(PO4) back into the Wheego" I'm going to be very upset.

Being in LA, where electric cars litter the landscape, I remember when Coda was still around. There were one or two that appeared somewhat regularly at the charging stations at LAX (where I work) through about 2014 or 2015. I haven't thought about them for years until I saw a dealer in the Bay Area listing one for sale last fall. Wonder if they were able to unload it . . .

Robert, have you tried the Wayback Machine for efficientdrivetrains.com? Seems like their website was still very much alive until 2018: https://web.archive.org/web/2020*/www.efficientdrivetrains.com/

It looks like they were acquired by Cummins, Inc. https://www.cummins.com/news/releases/2018/07/02/cummins-announces-acquisition-electric-and-hybrid-powertrain-provider
