Anime only here, but I'm assuming the Preservation Treatment aka the "cotton blood" like closes the wound once it turns to cotton, so Kotoha (the green haired glasses girl) could be alive and can't bleed to death.

Think the sound design of the anime is pretty interesting. Because of how quiet the show is at all times, it makes you really hear every subtle thing going on, and thus makes scenes feel really tense even if nothings actually happening.
