I've been holding out on you - I started a second channel a little while back, focused on SCUBA related material. It's a subject I am very interested in, but I didn't want to talk about it much until I had a few videos posted for people to see. I'm only posting there twice per month right now, although hopefully that will increase by the end of the year. Today's video is on the origins of the SEALs as Underwater Demolition Teams, so if you are interested in something like that, have a look and perhaps even subscribe!

Underwater Demolition Teams: Origins of the Navy SEALs

Today the US Navy SEALs are a force that can operate anywhere on earth, as implied by their name - Sea, Air, and Land. They didn't start out that way though - the SEALs origin was in the Naval Combat Demolition Units of World War Two, tasked with destroying beach obstacles in the first wave of amphibious assaults. Those men became the Underwater Demolition Teams, scouting and preparing invasion beaches in the Pacific and into the Korean War. In 1961 they were the perfect foundation for Arleigh Burke's naval special warfare teams: the SEALs. ----- Deep Dive with Ian is the SCUBA channel for curious people who want to know more about diving and the underwater world!

SEALs evolved from the Frogmen, much like mammals evolved from reptiles evolved from amphibians, but skipping the whole reptilian phase... 😄
